I have to admit I don't think Rafa gets the best out of Gerrard as often as he could. He needs to play his natural rampaging game through the middle of the park, arriving as support in the box for crosses coming in from wide areas. That's why we need decent wingers and strikers, to allow SG to be an ADDITIONAL threat not the main threat.

When Rafa moved him back in to CM again when Momo was injured he went on a run of soemthing like 5-6 goals in 8 games, but then he seemed to be asked to play the holding role and went into his shell again.

Rafa seems to think he needs to learn a more disciplined game (hence he's been playing much deeper in the last 4-5 games), or be played on the right. I think he's wasted there. We never seem to have enough MF threat in the box, and when SG gets in there from the middle, he more often than not scores.

I want Steven Gerrard back too - rampaging through the middle.

My point still stands; we are light years financially and commercially behind Man Utd and (more recently) Chelsea so finishing ahead of Arsenal in third place is exactly where we should be. Whether we are 3 points or 30 points behind the leaders is completely irrelevant. As Shanks famously said, "first is first and second is nowhere". Notice he didn't even bother mentioning third or fourth...

We're 4-5 quality first teamers away from a championship winning side: LB, LW, RW, 2 strikers

Sadly, I think we're 35 miles away from a Premiership winning side...

Its hardly irrelevant if we finish 3 points or 30 points behind the leaders. a gap of 3 points is nothing, a gap of 30 is a massive gap which would be impossible to turn around in 1 season, no matter how much we spend.

I haven't gven up on Chelsea yet. Take Ronaldo out of Utd's side and I honestly think they're average and nothing to be scared of. If Ronaldo leaves we'll see how good this "New side" that Fergie is "building" is next season.

I admire your optimism but Chelsea are 10 points clear of us mate.

Its been a bad day lads but chins up we gotta massive Champions League tie around the corner and the fact of the matter is we have turned Anfield into a fortress again plus we signed so many first team players in the summer add to that the change of the rear guard that i feel we are doing very well and hopefully with the addition of 3-4 maximum top quality players we will be genuine title contenders next season.

If Mourinho goes, then Drgba amongst others has already let the board know how unhappy he'll be. a £25m bid may tempt the new manager. Drogba is a top quality, proven premiership talent & is a cut above any of our currect players. Ditto players like torres & Huntlaar as well.
IMO Drogba is an overpriced, overrated excuse of a player who is having one season playing well above himself and his decidedly average talent, and because of the team he plays for will always be a darling of the tabloid press and Sky who are inclined to let go his despicable play acting and constant bitching to the officials because, again, of who he plays for.

I would never ever want to see that <nut in our shirt.

You underachieve when you lose to the likes of Bolton, Blackburn, Newcastle, and Everton. There are no excuses for those performances. People say it's all about money and we finish in realtion to how much we spend. Fine, but we should still be beating these "small" sides.

PLease. Bolton, Blackburn and Newcastle have good teams and imo its no shame to lose away to them. Everton on the other hand is a derby game so its always going to be tricky.

We didnt get into gear at the start of the season because we signed 6 players in the summer and we had so many tough opponents at the start of the season. The Scum weren't so good in their first few games of the season but they had such an easy start they gained the key factor to winning the league confidence which we have had the past few months and will hopefully take into the Champions Lague with us.

I thought we played some wonderful football yesterday and we where robbed plain and simple.

Harsh IMO. Drogba has been in England for under tow years and he is dong the business, until he starts playing like ****e he deserves all the plaudits.

He's proving this season to be far better than anything that we've got up front.

                              As for the thread:

                              1. Beast
                              2. Villa

Fair enough, Al, but those sort of results will always happen, like Man U losing at West Ham, Copenhagen and Southend this season, Chelsea losing at Fulham last season and so on. Like I've said a few times, our Premiership position is about right and [cliche]the league table doesn't lie[/cliche]...
