    Is Kuyt above criticism?

    Well?

It seems to me that if Kuyt failed to score a single goal this season we wouldn't mention it. Bellamy and Crouch can score goals, work their socks off and there's always someone on here disecting their performances, highlighting their failures and calling for a replacement.

Just what is it about the man from Holland that means he can do now wrong? He has an immense engine, but so so do Bellers and Crouch, and ultimately, they normally end up with an end product.

I'd feel sorry for either of those two if they failed to hit the net with as much consistency as Kuyt, they'd be ripped to shreds.

Personally, I think he's in danger of becoming the most over-rated LFC player of recent times.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

    Far from it mate.

    IMO, he was awful yesterday.

I dont think he's had a great season, by any stretch of the imagination.

It is however, his 1st season in Engalnd, so let's hope we see a lot more next term.

There's no doubting the quality is there. He just needs time to settle.

I see your point, but hope he will settle in by next season, any player giving 100% for the team even when not at his best is still a good sign though

I think he is just the type of player most people like.

For me he could put more of his chances away.

If we could get 12m+ for him I´d sell.

He was awful yesterday! I like to think that if you're a striker, you play in that position! Not holding the ball somewhere in the middle!

I realy don't think he was awful yesterday. I was at the game and the lad covered so much ground and never stopped running. His first touch, work rate and ability to hold up the ball in an attempt to bring our static midfield into the game was great but...

he didn't have one goalscoring chance, again. That's the problem with Kuyt, he's a support striker and needs a goalscorer alongside him.

and we don't have a good enough striker to play alongside him Bellamy works his socks off and creates trouble for the other team but he will need to improve his final touch. He should for example yesterday have made the EASY pass to Kuyt so he could put the ball away into the empty net.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I'm not saying he's a poor striker, he is after all, our top scorer in the league, but he's had the most starts, and rarely seems to make a chance.

Saying that though, its been a strange season so far, only one striker stands out (Drogba), the rest are hovering around the 10 goal mark.

Maybe the game is changing? I would say that you're never going to win the league without a goal machine up front, but then I look at the current table and I'm categorically proven wrong.

One thing is for sure, our midfield needs an overhaul as we don't have any goal scorers besides Gerrard. If Barca come in with a sensible offer for Alonso, I'd bite their hands off at the moment.

I'm prepared to be a heretic and say that in my view I don't think any of our strikers are good enough for the first eleven of a top four club but the one I like best is Crouch.

I really thought we tore them apart yesterday and did everything except score, which ultimately came back to haunt us in the dying moments.

If I were to give an assessment of Kuyt I'd say he is the kind of striker who'd make it in the Premiership but that he'd make it for one of the B list clubs rather than for an A list club like ourselves.

He's a supremely hard working lad so nobody can slag him off because what we get every game is the best he has to offer and there aren't enough professionals like him.

But in terms of assessing his abilities then it strikes me that he is a tad short of pace, and his first touch is often lacking, and as a striker he appears a bit blunt to me in terms of threat. He is a hard working journeyman striker who has obvious flaws in his game.

A Premiership player? Most definitely. Deserving of love? For his workrate of course. But I don't think he is particularly threatening and for a striker that's not an assessment, if accurate, that one really wants to hear.

Personally, if all our strikers were moved on then I'd not protest. Two top notch strikers would transform our side. It strikes me that at the moment we have forwards who have some of the qualities we need, but no striker who has all of them, and none who are out and out natural goalscorers.

I question whether his first touch is good enough to be a top support striker. Compare him with the likes of Sheringham, Bergkamp, Cantona and such players and the difference is that those players had a great first touch.

I don't remember him creating anything for Bellamy yesterday.

The only way I can judge is whether I'd be worried if they were playing against us, and I don't think Dirk would really worry me if he was playing for the opposition team.

I think he is to much of a player rather than a finisher. Far to often not just yesterday either, he finds himself out on the right, i don't know if it's tactics, a lack of quality on pennant's behalf or what, but i would like to see him much more in the middle and having more shots at goal from anywhere!!!

Kuyt has a been a big disappointment for me. Yes he works his socks off but thats something I look for in a midfielder, not a striker. I wouldnt mind a lazy moody word class finisher, who did feck all for 89 mins then bangs in a winner with a bit of magic.

                              Exactly!

Like Ronaldo is doing - standing still for 90 minutes, then sprints as hell and score a goal. That's what I want, a goalgetter, not ballgetter...
