The one that we deep down really want is the PL, the one that they deep down really want is the CL - there is still the chance of a beautiful ending to this season in Ancient Athens and the following day on the streets of Liverpool, if Chelsea can win the FA Cup and we win the CL then Utd's current celebrations will have felt (to them) a hundred years ago and long fizzled out and been troddon on.

I think the reason we didn't win the league is that overall our squad still isn't good enough. It has improved each year bit by bit, but it's still not quite there. Think back to the last season under Houllier. It's horrible.

Also the fact that Arsenal, then Chelsea, then the Scum have raised the bar in terms of how many games you can afford to lose has made our progress seem less significant than it actually has been; we're still a lot of points behind them. Chelsea came second and lost 3 league games this season. That's outstanding, and that's the level we're going for.

The argument that Rafa knows how to win in Europe but can't figure it out in the league? I don't see it myself.

I dont think we'll win the league next year, but we have to be challenging for it, up to the end of the season, at the very least.
We dont want a plethora of new signings and then the old chestnut of "time to settle". 2 or 3 new players max. We simply have to hit the ground running, right from the first game, with the new signings bedding in as we go.
Take the game to the opposition away from home, instead of starting off at a laborious tempo and on the back foot, looking not to concede. A far more positive attitude in general away from home and looking to win the game.

CL win or no CL win, IMO next season is crucial and quite possibly make-or-break.

Chelsea signed a fair few players when Maureen first arrived and they won it that year.It all boils down to the type and quality of the player we buy.If we can get the very best players we aim for then winning the league next year is definitely possible.Rafa knows at this stage the qualities a player needs to adapt to the English game so will only buy players who have talent and that ability.

I agree that less cautiousness is a must away from home and an excellent start has to be made. The fixture computer will have a big say in this as it did for United this year.Easier games first to get momentum.

I agree - it is very much an LFC thing where we have to put up with the endless 'we need to give them a couple of years to bed in' type quotes that are uttered every year. Every single year it's the same thing but next season a title challenge is required and no excuses.

One of my favourites is 'we have to hit the ground running' or 'we must not have a bad start again' - I remember Carra uttering that second quote before the start of this season in a newspaper article.....a few weeks later we were out of the title race.

15 years worth of near domestic domination and they STILL have fewer titles and trophies than us.

They're catching up fast though. We had an unassailable lead 17 years ago.

                    We're still ahead though Fredo.

Plus in a couple of weeks time we can do what it took them 32 years to do

I think we have to be realistic about new signings. it is easy for new players to come in and play well in a winning team with an established pattern that suits them. Since Rafa came we have either had to totally change the way we played or add significantly to it (this season we needed to add width and tried but injuries and poor form have meant this has failed). Young players especially in this environment need a while to bed in. Examples: Mikel at Chelsea and Vidic at Man U. It is not only us who has to wait for players to find their feet. It is just that in the recent past we have needed the improvement in the team more than our rivals.

The risk is minimized by buying class players, but other than Henry and possibly Eto'o I can't think of a single player ehw ave even been linked with in the press or on here who I could say was of such quality that they would certainly adapt to life at LFC.

I was a bit surprised we didn ot sign a few people in Jan to bed them in like Agger last season. It clearly helps

Don't always agree with ya Rash, but there's no arguing with that.
