FFS CacoOriginally posted by Cacodemon View PostYour point being that because he's leaving he can act unprofessional?
That might be your moral values, but they aren't mine!
He's a footballer, hardly the most professional of professions.
Do you class late night gambling sessions the night before a world cup qualifier as acting professionally then?
I would not have any moral dilemma if someone from work asked me to go to a photoshoot on the day of LFC's champions league final. I would simply say, sorry I can't make it.
Does a football club have ownership of your free time when you are their player, even after the season has finished? Sounds very strange to me.
I'm sure Owen could have said to his agent/Real, sorry, I can't take any appointments on 25th May.Originally posted by Gordon Brown

i find the whole idea of him not being in istanbul a bit of a mute point to be honest
the ONLY former liverpool player in Turkey under his own steam (ie not a cushy media job) was robbie and all our ex players claim to love us
he would have been gutted to miss out. but it was fates way of paying him back for all the "i'm close to signing" he spoon fed LFC for the best part of a whole season
he should have either forced Real to play ball- he was on too much per week to have as an unhappy squad player or stayed put. Joining newcastle reeks of desperation and panic which a player of his class did not need.
Raul actually missed about 4 months of football in the 05/06 season so owen would have got a lot more games at Madrid- maybe things would have been different for him then.
i don't like him, he is a huge risk, but if it was 9m for owen or 12m for bent i know who i'd choose
it wouldn't surprise me to see him at man ure next season and then i really woudl despise him"At a football club, there's a holy trinity - the players, the manager and the supporters. Directors don't come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques"

Seriously, this was at the end of the season and Owen's agent was already looking for a new club for him.Originally posted by Cacodemon View PostIf I was under-contract I'd have asked to be excused, if it was rejected I wouldn't have gone - because I would have valued my professionalism. How can Real dictate what Owen does in his free time at the end of the season? ****ing ridiculous suggestion.Originally posted by Gordon Brown

Real Madrid could have easily said, sorry you are under contract, you have to be at the photo shoot, no exceptions - that leaves him in the situation of effectively acting unprofessional and breaking his contract.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostFFS Caco

It's not something I would do, and probably Owen thought the same.
IF, the situation was a voluntary photoshoot, obviously I'd have told them "no I'm busy"....James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

So Real Madrid can organise photoshoots for Owen outside of the season in his freetime and he has no say whatsoever as to when it takes place.Originally posted by Cacodemon View PostReal Madrid could have easily said, sorry you are under contract, you have to be at the photo shoot, no exceptions - that leaves him in the situation of effectively acting unprofessional and breaking his contract.

So he's, almost literally, their slave?
Does that make sense to you? Would you sign a contract that allowed you to be at the beck and call of the club 365 days a year?Originally posted by Gordon Brown

To me that shows how much he "loves" the club.Originally posted by Cacodemon View PostReal Madrid could have easily said, sorry you are under contract, you have to be at the photo shoot, no exceptions - that leaves him in the situation of effectively acting unprofessional and breaking his contract.

Nobody can force him to be anywhere. And I´m sure Owen has photo shoots moved all the time.
The reason he was not there is not a photo shoot, IMHO.

Ronaldinho will probably join AC Milan in the summer and Milan have offered him that he will own his own image rights. That way he can decide himself which photoshoots he want to do and how much money he will get for them.Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
