Yes, Owen scored the goals for us, and I was gutted when he left, but with so many top quality strikers out there I feel he's way down the list of realistic targets.

If he returns, and is fit, then I'd welcome him signing again, but I feel there'll be a few names before him on Rafa's shopping list and Owen will only return if all others are out of bounds.

I totally agree we dont want to shell out big money on a player lets face it in his later years is prone to injury. Owen's biggest threat was his pace and he's lost that to a degree with hamstring problems and other injuries. Rafa knows this as well he's not gonna re-kindle this flame like with Fowler.

I loved him when he played for us, got to be up there in our top 6/7 strikers of all time!!

Although it is time to move on and not back, onwards and upwards with a fresh young talent!!

Good luck to Owen though I would to see him get back playing regular and scoring!!

Screw whether he went to Istanbul as a fan..he never went as a player.

Why? He was number 1 snidey little ****. If he wanted to stay at Anfield..just sign the whacking great contract that was on the table for the better part of a season. The idea that Rafa didnt wrap his arm around him so he left is bollox. Snidey Little **** left because he thought LFC were going backwards, would not win enough big trophies, and his profile would be harmed. Hence he jumped ship to Madrid where he thought trophies and glamour with his mate David would be assured.

Fortunately it turned out wrong for the snidey little ****. Good riddance and I wouldn't have him back regardless of how cheap the price

thats not how it works, players agents managers etc... do most of this stuff for the players, even though the club takes 50% of your income off the pitch in spain it doesn't mean that they organize all this stuff for the players. the deal with ac is just that they won't take an % of his advertising income....

The reason he was not there is not a photo shoot, IMHO.
There is another explanation. Somehow though I doubt some people would believe it.

Maybe he was very disappointed not to be there as a player.

There's an awful lot of speculation about Owen - from haters and defenders alike, journos and fans - and it doesn't seem to get anywhere, we just go round and round in circles. I can no longer tell which claims have any basis of truth to them.

The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Owen played for Real Madrid on the 28th May 2005? So it was hardly post-season!

Yes because Real owned his image rights 100%. If Owen "missed" the photoshoot then Real would have broken the contract with the paper that they set up the photoshoot with.

I think that Real could afford to pay the fine but the club would have acted unproffesional and got some bad publicity if the player that "missed" the photoshoot should show up on photos in Istanbul.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Fair enough, it wasn't post season, he could still have gone to Istanbul though. As many have said, it's irrelevant really, it's one of many occasions where Owen's actions have spoken louder than his words with respect to his feelings for LFC.

Basically you're beating him over something he probably had little control over, like I said, you can hate him for many things - but not, not attending the final.

Real Madrid were still involved in the league, he even scored in the 28th, so talk of him definitely leaving would have been premature; he'd have been under contract to attend the photo-shoot; in all likelihood Real wouldn't have accept Owen not turning up; so where does that leave him?

Does he act professional, like he's always done; or tell his current employers to "**** off" - like I said, you might have chosen the latter, I'd have chosen the former.

Personally i hope we don't get Owen, not because he loves England so much or that he is money grabbing so and so.

The reason I don't want Owen is because as a centre forward he is limited, He's not the type of Forward like Alan Shearer, Eto'o, one that can get all types of goals, tap ins, headers, goals from distance, powerful finishes and soft goals. He's not very successful in the lone striker situation also and his size (or lack of) is a problem when playing against giants like Terry, Ferdinand, Campbell etc.

Under Houllier we played the long ball to Heskey who would try (bless his cotton socks) and feed Owen, Or the Gerrard Hollywood pass to get Owen with his (then) speed pass the defence. This meant we played generally boring football (Only Plan A, Not Plan b, c etc) Playing against defensive teams would mean problems as there was no space for Owen to utilise his speed.

Personally i think there are now many better strikers in world football we could sign and we should stay away from the injury prone, Slowing Owen.
                          We come not to play.

You'd have gone to a photoshoot in preference to Istanbul?

I'll tell you what I actually DID with respect to Istanbul. I got a colleague to take on my responsibilities at work i exchange for one of their shifts at a later date because going to Istanbul meant so much to me.
So before you judge me as unprofessional :whatever: maybe you should think about that.

So you're now equating somebody covering your profession with a high-profile footballer that had to attend a photoshoot, classic. What did you expect Owen to do? Ask Guti to turn up with a Owen face mask?

No, if you think just a little bit laterally, it may have been possible for Owen to fullfill his responsibility at a different date as I did.
We all know that agents control things like photoshoots, to suggest the club dictated this date and there was no deviation is farcical.

And my profession may not be high profile but it's a damn sight more important than a footballer.
