riise does indeed hoof it a lot, cause he isn't that comfortable on the ball and strong in his decision making...hence opposition often look to close him down - result often a hoof.

Not taking part in the little feud, just an opinion on him as a player.

Steady on lads, heated as the debate may have been no need to get personal

OK just to sum up my thoughts on this...

-Riise is the weak link in our defence but it's obviously not the gaping flaw some on here make it out to be since we've got a very reliable defensive unit.
-Even if you think he's a better player, what's to say that Matt Taylor would be a better player for us? Riise knows our system and has played a successful part in it. Do people really think Taylor is that much better than Riise it is worth this risk?
-Even if Taylor is the person to come in and improve us at LB, why sell Riise? He's been our first choice this season and if we want a strong squad then he should stay and whoever has been below him in the pecking order should be the one to leave.
-Aurelio has had as many poor games for us at LB as good ones, and is often injured. He has got the potential to be a ****ing class player for us but he's not proven. To maintain a quality defence we need some stability. Riise offers that if things go wrong with any new signing.

Is Taylor the lad that was bummin Will Young?

        Lets keep Riise.

Agree with above. I just think we can do better than Riise but as has been said before it's not a priority. Ideally we would have someone better. I don't want Taylor either to be honest but I thought it relevant to say I'm not happy with Riise either in a thread about a potential left back signing

I would keep Riise but only use him as a squad player. Pre injury I thought Aurelio was starting to find his feet.

As a unit our defence is our strength as you say - but IMO long term both of our fullbacks could be improved. Finnan is a good and consistant but limited player. Riise is a more limited player defencively but offers a goal threat which is better than most of our midfield.

We badly need to strengthen the attacking aspects of our midfield and probably to add a clinical striker to the squad. This will cost a lot of money. We can work on the defence when we have that sorted. If Insua is as good as AFII believes he can gradually come in and replace Riise. I really think we need to keep the core of our squad in order to build on next season. For me that would mean keeping the back five intact.

You didn't say best in the world. But I'm sure most on here would agree that Scholes and Giggs are still serious class.

Yes, but Scholes and Giggs cant be classified as Stars anymore

I see what you're saying and I largely agree. The only point I would make is that you don't mention that JAR 'often hoofs the ball away'! I mean - what defender worth his salt would want to clear the ball upfield, away from the danger area?

Finally, I'm left wondering how my learned friend reacted when JAR 'hoofed' the ball into the back of the Barca net a few months ago? Or the screamer against PSV away? Or against the chavs at Cardiff - twice? Or ManUtd at Anfield? Or the countless other goals he's 'hoofed' in........

Somebody pass me bucket - I think I'm gonna be sick.

To be honest I can't be arsed arguing. There are enough people on here that agree with me and also agree with you. It's a split topic. Let's leave it there.

I actually think Riise splits opinion amongst LFC fans more than any other player in the squad - including Crouch.
