last we head (from the new owners) there was 50,000 + on the season ticket waiting list.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

i'm sure it will be other wise we'd just wait, can't see peeps issues with this, they are clever business men they'll sort it and want to start making us more money asap seems like sound business sense to me

The list is donkeys years old and nowhere near that will take them up though. United wiped thier list with thier expansions over the last few years.

Yes, but we have SUCH a long waiting list we'd fill it from Day 1. It seems madness to me not to capitalise on that potential revenue generation as soon as we are able.

I agree but there is a major infrastructure problem now, by adding 24000 to the capacity they are gonna have major problems without the fact they are building on the main car park.
We will struggle to fill 68000 some of the time anyways, particularly for CC games and midweek prem games, and some of the less glamourous CL games, also if the cost increases anymore which it will we will see a downturn.

only games we'll have problems with are the early CC games, the rest will be fine imo

Cool- hopefully will get tickets more easily.

The reduced increased capacity must definitely be to appease the planners, although I dont see how the infrastructure will improve before we go to the 78-80k.

What excites me is the additions on the touchlines- ie we will be closer to the pitch- and the high bombanera-esque feel to it.

                  How reliable is this poster??

I understand what you are saying, but I still think it is better to aim high, not low like GH & Parry did. We have to be as ambitious as United are, at the very least.
On how long the season ticket waiting list is, or how old, I remember, just a few years back taking the tour of Anfield and it was about 20,000.

You may be right but it will depend on success level by then and price. Tbh I cannot see Rafa being here by then and who knows who will be in charge after him, its a long way off and lots of things could have changed for better or worse, I think 68000 is ample initially.

                        Nothing new there

The architects met Liverpool Council Planners at a conference in Lisbon recently. The revised planning application will be for a 78,000 seater. Planners view is that this will be very difficult to achieve because of transport issues.

As was posted ages ago, work will commence this month on the basis of the existing Planning Consent. Any work that significantly increases the capacity will need to go back for planning approval.

...and it is extremely doubtful that it will succeed without legal challenge, being called in etc.

Oh, and the Head Planner is a bluenose by the way

CC games maybe - I'm not sure about the others. As for the cost I agree, local wages don't necessarily compete with salaries from elsewhere - but unfortunately that's market forces for you, and these guys are in it to make money - make no bones about that. The glory and reputation will be a bonus for them, but you can be sure the bottom line is about $$$$$ for them.

So if they increase the ticket prices by £5 or so per game, there'll always be someone there to take the palce of someone who gives up their ticket. Sad it maybe, but that's market forces.

If things go well, & he gets the backing he requires there is no reason for Rafa to leave for a long time- we are a big club, and will be very very big, and Rafa is still a young manager. Hopefully he will be able to fulfil his ambitions here over the next decade or so before returning to Real or whereever.

i think we definatly need bigger, but 68k is probably the highest we can go currently until the transport system around the stadium is fixed to handle more fans.

It is possible people are exagerrating the infrastructure problem. I've heard loads of rumours locally in Anfield about a railway station at The Clarence etc. Brent council in London have enforced a 1 1/2 mile no parking zone around Wembley which, if violated, the offender's vehicle is towed away. This kind of think is certain to be implemented.
Maybe fans are expected to radically change their match going habits. You could set up 2 or 3 Large car parks outside the limit and disperse people that way. Subsidised buses could be laid on to ferry people in and out of the area fairly quickly. Facts have to be faced supporters are a determined bunch and WILL walk miles if necessary to get to the ground and the owners realise this. Besides, what major sporting or music event isn't a nightmare to get in and out of? I remember getting stuck in Wembley's car park for hours after various games.
I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.
