We should definitely keep him unless he isnt happy with his role at the club. His performances havent gone down whenever he has played this season and he will be a very good 3rd choice centre back. Even if we buy a new defender, if Carra or Agger get injured, the new defender might not have adjusted to the English league so it is important to have Sami around. He will also be influential in the development of the loads of young defenders that Benitez has bought.

He should play? You mean regularly or occasionally?

Stay. Still a vital member of the squad.

Personally I'd love to see him stay for the rest of his career and beyond. He might not have the legs anymore (did he ever have them? ), but his experience and knowledge of the game would be invaluable when bringing some of the youngsters up.

Joe Strummer would be the ideal person to answer this question.

I wonder if Hamann regrets moving to City. He's been in and out of a truly woeful side, regardless of injuries and it's just sad to see.

Hyypia would probably go to a better team if he left, but I hope he ends his career with us.

Should have stayed at least until Jan when we got Mascherano

Will be of great help to Danger in that he might understand Sami a bit more than Carra and learn from him in training. If either Carra or Danger get injured we suddenly look very light at CB with Paletta left in reserve. If Milito arrives I'd still keep him for the season, he's been a great servant to the club. Better options in the reserves and youth team than Paletta.
I'd keep him, a bit like Didi last year I would've tried to keep him also.

Let him stay and let him pass on his experience and knowledge to other defenders like Agger, Paletta, Hobbs etc.

Ask Sami what he wants to do, and whatever he chooses I'd be happy with his decision, he deserves to be given whatever he asks for (not unlimited wages, I mean in footballing terms only).

Sami in an interview last week sometime said he'd be happy to stay if he plays the same amount of games this season as last, I don't see any reason he won't and i think that means we won't be seeing a CB come in this window, maybe january or next summer

                              Hyypia poised for new contract

Hyypia poised for new contract May 31 2007

by Ian Doyle, Liverpool Daily Post

LIVERPOOL are ready to offer Sami Hyypia a new contract in a bid to ensure the Finland international extends his eight-year stay at Anfield.

Turkish outfit Besiktas along with Premiership trio Newcastle United, Fulham and Wigan Athletic are among several clubs tracking the Finland international, who made 29 starts for Liverpool last season.

All are willing to offer 33-year-old Hyypia a bumper wage packet and the security of a two-year deal for a player entering the latter stages of his career.

With no other senior cover for first-choice centre-backs Jamie Carragher and Daniel Agger, Rafael Benitez is keen for Hyypia to remain at the club.

And while the Finn still has 12 months left on his contract and this week suggested he wants to stay, the Anfield outfit are poised to try and prevent the defender’s head being turned by offers elsewhere by tabling an improved two-year deal.

In any case, Benitez is likely to be in the market for a new centre-back this summer with the Liverpool manager looking to offload Gabriel Paletta.

The Argentine 21-year-old has struggled to acclimatise to life in English football since arriving from Banfield last year, and made only eight appearances during the season with his solitary goal coming on his debut in the Carling Cup win over Reading in October.

Another Liverpool defender, John Arne Riise, claims he will begin negotiations with the club soon over a contract extension.

Riise is among several players about to enter the final two years of his contract but, unlike Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Xabi Alonso, Steve Finnan and Luis Garcia, no talks have yet begun over a new deal.

It has prompted speculation the Norwegian could be on his way out of Anfield as part of Benitez’s squad overhaul, but the left-back remains confident he has a future at Liverpool.

“I know the manager would have called at once it if was true that he wanted to offload me,” said Riise. “I have had full confidence at Liverpool for six years, and see no reason to stop playing for the club.

“The plan is that we shall talk about a contract extension before the start of next season,” he added.

Benitez, meanwhile, has been encouraged by the positive response of the club’s American owners to his calls for immediate action in the wake of last week’s Champions League final defeat.

The manager took part in a conference call along with Rick Parry, George Gillett and Tom Hicks that helped clear the air of negativity that has descended upon Anfield since Athens.

And Benitez said: “Rick (Parry) and I had a good meeting when we spoke to the owners and we all agreed what’s important is for everyone to work together to do the right things for the club.

“That means changing the structure of the club and spending money on players, both young players and players who will go straight into the team.”

He added: “We have not talked about budgets, but I know the owners are backing me.

“That’s what’s important and now is a time for us to be positive.”

The first sign of action being taken was the conclusion of the deal to sign Hungarian teenagers Krisztian Nemeth and Andras Simon, both of whom Benitez holds in high regard.

“We have been watching these players for a long time,” said the Spaniard.

“There were a lot of big clubs interested in them, such as Real Madrid, Ajax and PSV Eindhoven.

“It’s never easy for a young player to settle in England, but we know they have outstanding ability and we’re really thankful to the president of their club for his fantastic co-operation in our negotiations.”

Reports in Sweden claim Liverpool have agreed a three-year contract with 15-year-old midfielder Alexander Kacaniklic. The teenager was on trial at the club in January.

                                I'm happy if it's true
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
