And Fredo, I respect your opinion, but there is absolutely no doubt in my mind he is a world class striker. The facts are there and speak for themselves.

If you go by what you say then Carra should be moved on because he does not offer much else other than solid no-nonense defending - which is all we need! So in the same way all we need from our striker is goals - surely we can agree on this.
Owen scored plenty of goals for England but most of them were scored in meaningless friendlies. How many times has he starred in a world cup ? He's scored a couple yes, but hardly world class mate.

Owen is a good goalscorer, did very well in the premiership and had a decent spell in Spain but I can't class him as world class. If he was world class, he would still be at Real Madrid and playing for Liverpool, not Newcastle.

I agree in a sense yes but Owen would be 4th or 5th choice in the list of great strikers at the moment.

I still doubt the 'world class' goalscorer label when talking about Owen and I've doubted it even when he played for us.

On the contrary a younger Robbie Fowler would have been one.

He is a good player, but given his injury record and attitude id give him a miss, there are better all round players we could sign.
I also think someone like Tevez would do more commercially that Owen would for the club.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Since then though Owen has had 2 potential career threatening injuries a metatarsal and a cruciate ligament injury

We havent seen hardly anything of Owen to know whether these injuries have had any effect on him as a player and neither has Rafa

As good a player as he was £9 million is a HUGE gamble based on his injuries and no evidence that he is anything like the player post Newcastle

Don't make me wrong mate, Owen is not a bad player, just not the world class one that we need.

And I don't hate him, even if he was disloyal to us, just that I feel he's never been good enough for us.

He thrived in Houllier's system ... The team was built around him, playing counter attacking football etc ... His great strength has to be his fantastic movement and great goalscoring ability but I haven't seen that consistently in World cups for England.

Anyway, that's just my opinion, I may be wrong.

more shocking than owens return lecter is the fact you made 2 spelling mistakes i think thats a first for a penmanship like yourself

And add that for that matter.

The case for Owen has always been extremely thin so I don't see the point of this rehashed debate in the first place.

He doesn't use a pen mate.

I can't see Owen signing for us when Rafa is in charge. Even afterwards he would be too old and past it completely.

Owen ****ed the club over and Rafa - like the fans of the club won't forget that the ****er walked out leaving us without a striker before Rafa first season. Carra and Gerrard have nothing to do with it and I'd seriously doubt they'd try and press Rafa into signing him
