It is also difficult to work out exactly what their responsibilities would be. I imagine being the link between manager and Melwood would be a decent core role with us. If they could take some administrative work off of the manager then I guess that would also be a useful thing.

Not sure about the idea of Ged doing these roles though.
There's no chance of it happening. But I have to take issue with your opinion that it could be a good idea.

What could he possibly bring to the table that isn't already in place at the club?

And lets not forget that he's a complete and utter hack of the first water. It was a great day for this club when we axed him. I've got no time for him at all.

I really feel that comment has no place here.He is part of and has contributed an awful lot to this clubs illustrious history.A clueless man would spend millions and have nothing to show for it.Eg:the mangers of Newcastle,Leeds,Spurs, etc.Show a little apprecition will you.The guy nearly gave his life for this club.

He's utterly clueless. I don't want him poisoning the wells of our football club, especially as we have the best chance of winning the league in years.

My comments were about the director of football role in general. I then tried to fit it into us which was probably a mistake in terms of clear argument. It was meant more as an example of what the role could be used for.

I don't think the timing is right for Houllier at the minute to be honest even if we were to want to create the role - he was too recently at the club. I think he would bring his experience at having run places like Clarefontaine (spelling) and LFC past to the table if ever we were to get rid of Rafa and look to have a director of football & manager/coach setup.

Well I didn't know, that's why I asked. "Of the first water" isn't a phrase I've come across.

And on Ged, we owe him a lot and he deserves more respect that.

I understand where Niall's coming from but I think that's extremely harsh. I try to remember the pre-illness Houllier. I loved him then and I'm grateful for his part in restoring our dignity.

I do think he was a bit of a blagger with no real footballing vision or philosophy, and I don't think he's even a tenth of the manager Rafa is. Add to that his paranoia and penchant for unbelievably lame excuses, then I can understand where Niall's coming from.

                          Very harsh though.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

sorry it offended you but i'm no lover of houllier. he brought the treble (barely) but in the years that followed we went into a serious decline in almost every area. his constant excuses, the way he treated certain players, the way he pissed the clubs money down the drain, the dire football on display....do you need more examples?

How about trophies and league positions under his predecessors?
