you really are one seriously deluded individual. your basing his worth on the season before lasts performances. i know you think i must dislike the guy but I don't - i can't wait for him to get back to his best as he can be a very good player. unfortunately though, we've seen more below par performances from him than we have excellent. that does NOT make him a key player whose absence will have a detrimental effect on our season.

because alonso's out as well maybe?Originally posted by Sarb24 View PostWhy not Gerrard in Central Defence? Likes of Hansen and Lawro have said that he would do a good job there. As a stop gap I don't see any harm. He can also bring the ball out from the back much like Agger doesThomas Hicks Senior

oh yeah so Leiva who hasn't had a game yet, Sissoko and Mascherano looks like a quality pairingOriginally posted by Sarb24 View PostNo sh*t...is he? It's on the basis that we've got Mascherano, Leiva and Sissoko able to play in midfield

This is a huge blow for us!
Agger being missing for over a month is terrible, just terrible as he's cemented himself as a key figure for us lately. Xabi will obviously be missed too, but at least there's Stevie, Mascherano, Sissoko and Lucas to cover the central midfield spots. However, Xabi was playing well and influencing games this season too!
I'd give Sami the role at the back for now, but will also look to bringing Arbeloa in for a few games in a central role in his place when more pace is needed - he's turning out to being quite a signing for a low price now isn't he! With Riise and Aurelio able to fight for the left back spot we should be fine there if Arbeloa is needed in the centre.
I'm also looking forward to seeing Lucas maybe having a chance soon to see what he can do, but maybe he'll be kept for the Carling Cup game and sometimes on the bench for now as he's still young.
But, it's a massive blow having both out injured, just lucky that Carra is back, otherwise we'd be in big sh!t!!!

^^ I said that in the match thread on Saturday. I can't remember the exact incident but it looked like one of those types of injuries when they showed it, I'd be a little surprised if it happened since then.Xabi is injured, signalling he has to go off. Babel coming on for him, Gerrard going central.
Could be a metatarsal.

OK, that's not the end of the world, the international break in october comes at a good time! We can beat Birmingham and Wigan for sure without Agger, We should beat Everton as well because although I feel Sami is poor against quick and skillful opposition he can cope against kick and run players like Yakubu, Johnson and Cisse. Question about Berbatov and Keane though. We can do this!Originally posted by JohnDoe View PostThe news means both players are likely to miss a number of Barclays Premier League and Champions League matches, including fixtures against Birmingham, Wigan, Tottenham, Everton and Marseille.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
