Chris their beliefs are respected but I don't see why they should be given special treatment.Originally posted by The Glove View PostIs Yossi in need of working to round off his monthly debt? Was it an emergency that he played on Saturday? The answer is no. Case closed.
Fact is, if people are religious then their beliefs are to be respected. If not, then the employer will find themselves on the wrong end of an employment tribunal.
You know the type of work I do I would have mass hysteria if I had to treat people differently also I would have people taking the piss all the time as to why they wanted time off.
I respect their right to be anything they want to be when it doesn't interfere with working arrangments.
They have an obligation to their employers to.

TBH mate that's not even what bothers me about this, Religion is a personal thing should be practised at home it should have nothing to do with work.Originally posted by alunevans View Posti think with me, the more they earn, the less slack i'm prepared to give them.
i think the match should cost around a tenner personally. its largely due to the huge (no, obscene) wages earned by mere footballers that its 35 quid instead.
while they earn such silly money largely out of our pockets, the less reasonable i find myself being towards them, and the less the employer-employee analogy holds.
it may not make me right, and it may well be that everyone should be able to practice whatever stuff they believe in even if there's a match on, but the more they're paid, the less understanding i get about it.
Things that you do in your personal life should have little or no affect on your work.
Is it acceptable for someone who religiously goes out on the piss on a Sunday and not go in fit for work on the Mon.

another way of looking at it is if crimbo day falls on a saturday there won't be any prem games, now to someone like Yossi (as far as i'm aware christmas would just be a normal day to him) he loses out on a day he could go into work for no reason to do with his beliefs, so surely he shouldn't be refused the chance to take his particular holy day off. Solution either don't schedule games on that day if there is sufficient demand to not play (i don't think there is at this stage) or just lump it and let him do what he choses.Originally posted by redblood View PostChris their beliefs are respected but I don't see why they should be given special treatment.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

But if it's someone's funeral and you're supposed to be working your employer should give you the day if it is important to you personally to be there. It's exactly the same, an 'essential' cultural ritual taking priority over a single day of work. It's not special treatment, everybody should have the freedom to take the odd day off work for a legitimate important event that is personal to them.Originally posted by redblood View PostHe knew he has an obligation to play football at most twice a week for 9 months of the year.Like blood on iron
