He can also speak pretty good Spanish, which should help.

I kind of like the idea. Its clear Bolton and England benefited from Lee's ability as a coach.

See if Rafa is keen...go from there

            Rafa did yes...as a coach

Me thinks Sammy was expecting more at the time

I remember him saying he wanted a change or was that a new experience. I think he got it and if Rafa thinks a new coach should be brought on I think he'll be an excellent addition as he was very popular with the players.

Was he a fitness coach here or what ?

I don't know if after having a few years to reflect Rafa's changed his stance on him, I guess we'll have to wait and see

Sammy had his chance and left. He'll always be fondly remembered - but still don't want him back.

I'm inclined to agree but having said that I think the one thing missing in our current managerial team is an obvious link between the players and management. Pako seemed very popular amongst the players and if Rafa rates Sammy as a coach (which I have no idea if he does) then I think that he might be able to fulfill that role.

I think his coaching credentials have taken a serious knock after his disasterous stint at Bolton. To take a team from the top six to the bottom three takes some doing.
Thanks for the memories Sammy. But no thanks.

We absolutely should not go there. Clearly we got the best of him.

I have to say I'm not sure that is true. I think the fact is that everyone knew (Aladyce included) that the end was coming for the particular set of players he had assembled at Bolton. I think it was a big challenge for Sammy and his failure showed he was not a top level manager but I'm not sure that is a good representation of coaching ability.

Nearly all of the mid-90s United team list Brian Kidd as the best coach they ever worked with but he was a god awful manager for example. It also pretty clear that there is a disconnect between the coaching ability of people like Glenn Roeder, Carlos Queiroz and Steve Wigley and what they achieved as managers.

Still not sure that Sammy would be right for us but I would not be unhappy if he did come in.
