Not least amongst those reasons is that I believe he still speaks Spanish and can act as a good link between Rafa and the payers which seems to have disappeared since Pako left.

He's also a top-class coach although you're right in saying that none of us know whether he is a good motivator or not. Perhaps we should ask Kevin Nolan or Gary Speed?
I'd have no problem if Rafa wanted Sammy to be his assistant. I don't think he will though, I don't think Rafa wants one and it's possible that there is something in Pako's on going contract to prevent it.

Regardless of what you said about Sammy Lee, which is STILL MADE UP ****E; how the **** do you justify that comment about Rafa?
How we have played in the league since he took charge. Our players has looked very uninterested more than once in the league.

You can also look at our players when we go a goal down. They lose faith in themselves very quickly in the league if it's not against a top class team.

Look at the Marseille, Birmingham or Tottenham games for example this season. The players didn't believe that they could turn the game around. It was only when we started to play desperate football that we started to create something.

Compare that to Arsenal or Man U when they go a goal down. They put in an extra gear and believes that they will turn the game around.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Are you talking about this season or are you talking about the whole time Rafa has ben in charge?

May I just remind you about the Olympiakos game and Istanbul.

Look AFII, you don't know how good or bad Rafa is at motivating players, you're making assumptions and declaring them as the holy gospel according to AFTribal.

fair point, especially in these days of managers taking coach's with them. but you know what i mean. there's much more evidence of a manager's ability but how do we measure a coach's as an outsider?

Only the more astute of players would be able to tell I suppose.

The most important thing about the next coach/assistant if there is to be one is that it must be Rafa's decision and not
just an ex-player who is out of work.

But Lee most obviously ISN'T "just an ex-player who is out of work"...

No, he's an ex player and ex coach who is out of work

I believe this would be a step backwards.

As much as I love the guy and think he is a good fitness coach, i'm just not sure he'd be the right guy to bring back to the club in a first team role, Gary Mac included. (Maybe academy/reserves development)

Head over heart in this instance i'm afraid.

                        Liverpool return on for Lee
                        tribalfooball.com - October 17, 2007

A return to Liverpool could be on for former Bolton Wanderers manager Sammy Lee.

The Daily Mail says Lee remains highly regarded as a coach at Liverpool, where Rafa Benitez is a man short, and within the FA, who are likely to offer a role to the former England coach and No 2.

The way I recall it from reading 'a season on the brink', Rafa made it clear that Sammy wouldn't be part of the 'decision making' team, and as such forced Sammy's hand in him walking out the door. I don't know if after having a few years to reflect Rafa's changed his stance on him, I guess we'll have to wait and see

Hell no. Clearly he offers very little from the bench.

We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold.
