Sunderland reject Liverpool offer for striker Jones

We don't know how good he would be playing for a big club. There is a big difference playing for a small club like Sunderland and playing for Liverpool.
If we sign him then I will back him 100%. If he isn't good enough then he will be sold anyway and other players will play instead.
He has scored four goals for them and they don't create that many chances. We create a lot of chances but don't score that many goals.Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I'd agree with that. However the problem comes when a gamble on a player becomes too high. I think if we had another reasonably consistant striker in the squad then it would be worth a punt. However spending decent money on another young, developing player at this point seems a dubious decision to me. To me he looks like a player who might well suit our system but is not going to instantly improve the first XI.Originally posted by Howard_lfc View PostBut he's not a big name einar. The clamour here is for big players - not the right players!
Our major weakness at present is a lack of goal threat. If we let Voronin and Crouch go and Jones along with a more experienced goalscorer came in then I would be reasonably happy. As it is however the potential improvement represented by his coming in is not enough to justify the gamble (unless Rafa really is unwilling to play Crouch for some reason).
He would be quite far down a list of possible January targets for me - with Anelka probably towards the top. Long term he might be worth a look though."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

amauri looks a good player, similar to jones but a bit older. id prefer him as jones doesnt have a great goal scoring record even in the championship. either him or gomez from stuttgart would be ideal if crouch leaves. plus they'd probably cost around the same as jones.“At a football club, there’s a holy trinity - the players, the manager and the supporters.
