Who has been our best player so far this season?

Not sure why anyone hasn't mmentioned Gerrard yet, maybe because of the high standards he has set himself over the last 7 years.

For me it simply has to be Gerrard, he has yet again the one who has come up with the crucial performances and goals.

To name a few of the games: Villa, Besiktas & Arsenal

it's not about gerrard's high standards but he's put in some very poor performances this season. yes, he put in some very good performance but not outstanding ones whereas arbeloa and reina played consistently at a high level.

I just don't feel he's been consistent enough. When you're discussing the best player so far, or the best player of the season, it boils down to consistency in my book. Gerrard has had a decent season so far, but he's had a few poor games too.

Between Reina and Arbeloa as they have both been great throughout the whole season. Mascher is playing great now but was not himself at the start of the season.

Reina is a decent shout as well.

Arbeloa has done well.... the fact that are not many candidates shows thats the lads have not really got firing yet. Lets hope once Jamie C, Finnan, Stevie G, Alonso and Torres get to full pelt.... we will make some ground on the others

Back to the question, for me it's Arbeloa followed by Reina. We all knew what a superb GK Reina was already but Arbeloa's been the real surprise. He gets better and better...so far he's been an excellent signing by Rafa.

He was one of our best in the second half of last season and continued the form into this. He looked a constant threat to any defense he played against.

Most of the others have been underperforming so I can't see any that have played better than Pennant bar Reina.

EDIT: Arbeloa has been good. Benayoun has been fantastic but hasn't played enough.

Oh and Torres. How the **** did I forget that.

Pennant has setup **** all this season, he's played a part in goals but he's not played a single "killer pass" or scored. Saying he's been one of our best players suggests you've started your weekend early

For me Reina has been the most consistent, certianly in those draws he made a couple of key saves that prevented them turning into losses. Arbeloa and Finnan have also been solid but for me Gerrard has been the pick of the outfield players. He's scored vital goals, setup a couple and also generally played strongly in the midfield in Xabi's absence.

How many defenses has he ripped apart this season? How many chances created were instigated by him? How many fantastic balls has he delievered into the box only for one of our underperforming forwards to boot over the bar?

Point being, assist don't tell the whole story. You can blame the forwards for that.

He played really well in the early part of the season and that is a fact.

Or you could argue that the quality of his final ball has been poor. Plus in their short time at the club both Yossi and Babel have outscored him, even the The Crow has too. It wouldn't surprise me if Kewell bagged a goal on Saturday which would put him level with Pennant despite missing pretty much all of the last season and a bit.
