"I watched the Champions League quarter-finals and the way they crushed Arsenal. Only the greatest and the best can play such a match.

Even if the worst happens, we'll have to make do with it. It's still our club. The only thing where we can have an influence (if the rumors are true) is to ask these americans questions as to how they intend us to compete with United if we won't be spending money in the immediate future.

As with everything, there's a sense of perspective.

Well thats were we are .. Still in the fight scoring goals for fun best goal keeper in the land .. one of the best defences in the land with our 2nd choice CB holding the fort.

I just wish the endless moaning and speculation would end sometime but alas I know thats not going to happen anyday soon
Rafa is the medias next target and they will hunt him down until he is sacked, just like they did with Jol and many others before him. Even if anything of this isn't true then they will continue to write **** articles about it until they get what they want, Rafa out.

So we will probably have to get used to read **** articles every day about our current situation.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Its always a bit of a slow news week in the run up to Chrissy so the press have nowt else to blather on about. I dont think rafa will be hunted the way of Jol, cos a few decent results will put us back in contention somewhat and the press will move onto something else.

Im just glad capello's appointment was announced this week or it would be a lot worse for us.

Like we said - it was pure ****-stirring by the press: From bbc website~

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has dismissed claims boss Rafael Benitez has been told he cannot do any transfer deals in January.
It was reported Liverpool's American co-owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks had placed Benitez under a transfer embargo on moves in and out of Anfield.

But Parry told BBC Sport: "I can say that this is absolute rubbish."

As I remember it Rafa thought if we didn't move a month ago the two free transfers would not be available so it is a pretty risk free & equally content free statement to say that they won't be coming in.

The no sales thing is interesting but could simply be scaremongering to increase the impact of the story. It certainly makes little sense in cases such as Momo's where a sale would benefit everyone seemingly at this stage - irrelevant of purchases.

I'm very sceptical as to whether there is anything in this story other than a rehash of the general media speculation.

Parry has had a course with Ian Cotton I see. Although he is clearly not quite as experienced at the use of excessive concision.

That's very reassuring, I think we all took those reports with a pinch of salt, they were speculative at best. But I still maintain that if the club had been quicker and more pro-active in backing Rafa publicly it would have nipped all of the speculation in the bud a long time ago and we wouldn't be getting this type of nonsense we're being subjected to now.

I wish we could sue paper that wrote false ****e stories. That would clean up the press in England.

I wonder if papers could get away with all this crap and not get sued to hell in the US...

Benitez will be allowed to do deals in January
Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has dismissed claims boss Rafael Benitez has been told he cannot do any transfer deals in January.

It was reported Liverpool's American co-owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks had placed Benitez under a transfer embargo on moves in and out of Anfield.

But Parry told BBC Sport: "I can say that this is absolute rubbish."

Liverpool, however, are likely to wait until the summer to complete a proposed £17m move for Javier Mascherano.

Benitez met Hicks and Gillett after Sunday's defeat against Manchester United at Anfield in a bid to settle recent differences over transfer policy.

The meeting was described as "amicable" - although BBC Sport understands the American duo made it clear to Benitez that any further debate on club policy must not be made public.

Benitez remains confident of completing the purchase of Argentine midfield man Mascherano at the end of the season, while he is also hoping to complete two free transfer Bosman deals when the transfer window opens next month.

Peter Crouch and Momo Sissoko have been linked with moves away from Liverpool, while Benitez had also been hopeful of concluding a deal for AC Milan defender Kakha Kaladze.

The Spanish coach made a public attack on the club's hierarchy when he was told to concentrate on coaching rather than transfer business until they arrived back in England for the Manchester United game.

It was a stance that brought a stinging public rebuke from Hicks, who ordered Benitez to "quit talking".

Benitez is now unlikely to jeopardise his position further with any renewed criticism of Hicks and Gillett after a meeting described by one Anfield insider as "surprisingly low-key".

I have been thinking about whether spending 17mill on Mascher is really the right way forward. It looks like it would be 3/4 of our entire netspend in a summer window. Maybe Lucas, Gerrard, Yossi and Alonso would be sufficient for the time being? I like Mascher a lot but 17 mill? Even gold can be bought at too high a price.

I think we need to focus on to quality wingers and better fullbacks. A really good CB cover and another ace striker. In other words, considering the apparent limited funds 17 mill for a midfielder might be OTT?

Momo might, through some sort of deranged miracle, bring us 8/9mill and Carson around 10. The question is whether we should use this money to tie down Mascher or look at solving some of the other problems.

                                Ace stirker: 18/20 mill?
                                Ace wingers: 35 mill?
                                Evra mould fullbacks: 30 mill?
                                CB: ?

I just think that 17 mill might be too much considering Alonso and Lucas.

                                Am I alone?
