Houllier had a good squad when he joined us and less competitive teams to fight it out with, Rafa had to get rid of Houlliers **** players on high wages before he really had a chance to start to build his team.
No one's comparing Houllier with Rafa. That's just like comparing Cantona to Zidane
only those who took part in the Cantona thread would get this
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
Firstly, it costs to sack someone. Secondly, if they do sack him (which I think they will) it will be at the end of the season if he doesn't bring in a major trophy - prem, champs league.
Americans tend to choose words very carefully. one word that wasent a ringing endorsement from gillette was immediate when he spoke to the ex players the other night he said, we want rafa or hes our man for the immediate future. knowing Americans like i do, it was a calculated statement. immediate is now, long term is a vote of confidence
"People from Liverpool have got something about them and, if they’re not happy about something, they let people know.” Jamie Carragher 15/1/2008
Fair enough but please don't make it as if it was a fact, because you sound like AFII when doing that.
In my view, Rafa's evaluates the risks all the time and sees the bigger picture. In terms of the grand scheme of things the match against Marseille was more important as we needed a result ... a win.
The premiership is always recoverable as there are plenty of matches still left to make up ground.
That's hard facts Niall. You can't deny that. He had to win that match and he won it.
Really?
What if we lose the league by a point?
Every league point is vital.
Or should we not bother to try and salvage something from a game at 3-1 down because we have a game in midweek?
What happened to focusing on the next game, or did Rafa take it literally during the Reading game?
