Yeah, fair play to him. He set his team up with a view to keeping it tight today because he was obviously worried about the quality we have going forward in the form of Stevie, Torres, Benayoun and Kewell. To be fair to him he got it spot on because they got what they were looking for.

That said we still played well when we stepped up a gear and City were really holding on at the end. I thought that it was only a matter of time before we scored but to be fair to them, Richards and Dunne especially, they defended really well.

Dissapointed that we never got what we were looking for but we still played well and can take positives from the game.

        Taking it overall :

We had to win to gain on the leaders and it's a missed chance.
thanks for posting some sens mate - not too much about tonight so far

I think that's the key word here. A lot of the posts in this thread have been emotional and its mostly down to disappointment.

I haven't been as animated in the last five mins of a match since the West Ham Cup Final. I couldn't sit down and stop screaming.

If we had nicked a goal today we'd all be on cloud nine so let's move on from it and stick 4 past that Steve Bruce ****er on Wednesday.

if we maintain that type of committment we showed today we will be right there at the end of the season. funny how the game goes, ****ty performance against derby and 3 lucky points and a ****ing great 2nd half today with just a point.

I nearly kicked my daughter into the net I was getting so frustrated. It was just one of those days. A hard earned point.

We did make up points on the Scum and we still have to go to theirs and Arse and Chavs and they all have to meet again.

There's no real margin for error for any of us and today wasn't an error it wasn't down to not playing well or not creating chances or Rotation or Kuyt, the Pope or Me Mother, we've played worse than that and won.

It's disappointing that we didn't win because we all knew it was a chance to close the gap and the players could see that to.

There's still half of the season to be played and we are still well in touch.

Well with the other 3 AT HOME, we're 10 points adrift.

God knows what'll happen when we have to go away to them...

We deserved four points from those two games and got....four points.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

That's football, mate. I said to my dad after the match that I've sen us play worse and win. The Derby match on Wednesday is a great example of that.

Very much looking forward to seeing what Rafa can add to this squad that could improve on today's performance. I expect a fraught thirty days on this forum though if we've signed nobody by Thursday.

The window will tell us all we need to know about Rafa's long term security.

If he is allowed to spend proper money, he's safe.

I'm not expecting anything ground breaking, Are you? Maybe a cheap centre half as back up but that's it.

I can't see us signing anyone of note really. Anyone who thinks otherwise is surely kidding themselves.

Still, AFII will no doubt overload the site with every bit of crap that ends up on tribalfootball. I can't wait already!!!!
