Meanwhile, doubts persist about Tom Hicks’ ability to deliver on his pledge to complete a £350m refinancing deal with the Royal Bank of Scotland and Wachovia.

Sources close to the deal insist it will be difficult to tie up all the loose ends today and it could be tomorrow or even Monday before it is finally concluded.

DIC remain interested in buying the club from Hicks and co-owner George Gillett and are waiting in the wings should there be any last minute hitches with refinancing.

So how much would they earn if we win the CL? £20m-£25m? That is if we win it.

How much would they need to spend net every season to be able to challenge for a CL place? Probably a lot more than that. They would have to spend even more if they want us to be able to win the CL.

We won't have Rafa if G&H stays and he is the reason to why we can challenge in the CL.

That is my take on it.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I know the answer to that, but it's something i wont letting them into, they have their PR people on this, if they think they can turn the fans round & we'll all just continue to line their pockets for years to come it will only steel their resolve. They obviously have people looking into all aspects of this, any sign of fans wavering is good news to them.

You see this is the point, I don't support them but I will always support the club in any way I can. No one really supports them but we are stuck with them at the moment so we should be watching them carefully. I don't see what is wrong with me saying that.
I took part in the singing on monday but I'm concerned that if it goes on for months it will steadily make us look and feel like Newcastle which I don't want.

That's serious stuff, Us ending up looking like Newcastle. Ok i get what you mean, i'm just worried that if they think, 'Oh the fans, they're mad now, but we all know the club is their religion, take no notice, oh and look on the forums, some of the fans are now coming round to us, yes lets go ahead, **** DIC'S bid.' IMO we are at a crucial stage in all this. Yes i could be deluding myself that what we think will make any difference in a multi mill deal, but who knows. I was not doubting your loyalty to the club, it speaks for itself from your posts.

I do agree with you but it is some stuff that RS4 said that has brought me to my senses on this. What we think will not effect their plans, the only thing that will effect them is if we all stop going to the match and buying merchandise, I'm not happy doing that as the only thing that will be effected is the club and us. If they want to stay they will stay, simple cold hard fact. So we will have to watch them and every so often ask some difficult questions of them.

The Jury: What are your views on the current state of affairs at Anfield on and off the pitch

                  Jan 24 2008 Liverpool Echo

                  Robert Gillies, Aigburth

THE phrase ‘you can only sell the family silver once’ should be the epitaph on the under-whelming contribution of David Moores and Rick Parry to the club.

Why did it take nearly five years for them to find investment in the club? Liverpool were the most marketable of clubs in the world and even more so after the events of Istanbul.

Moores said he sold out to the Americans so that the manager would have a greater transfer fund and there would be the development of a new ground.

Some 12 months later Gillett and Hicks are on the verge of selling out for a handsome profit, having broken every promise to move the club forward and we are going to be £350million in debt.

Which of our competitors is being managed in this way?

When DIC move in they will finally install some expert personnel. Rafa Benitez should not be judged until some stability has been achieved.

                  Ian Richardson, Rock Ferry

DESPITE what Gerrard had to say on Monday night, the side put out should be good enough to beat teams like Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Bolton and Man City. The players just aren't performing.

The bigger picture at the moment concerns the way Tom Hicks is conducting himself, and the plans of the American partnership to load the club with debt to refinance their loans, something they agreed not to do when buying the club. They're going back on their word.

They promised to back the manager in the transfer market. But in reality, Benitez has spent a net of £24m this summer. He financed most of his signings through player sales. They haven't delivered on those pledges to back him.

I just hope all efforts can be aimed at getting Gillett and Hicks out of the club.

They have dragged our name through the mud and as soon as they have gone, Rick Parry must follow. He’s responsible for getting us into this mess in the first place.

                  Andy Collinson, Aigburth

HOW honoured Liverpool fans must feel that in Capital of Culture year Hicks and Gillett have decided to stage their own performance of "Pirates of the Caribbean" at the knockdown price of £350 million.

It's an Anfield coup for Rick Parry and David Moores that makes winning five European Cups look, by comparison, as simple as Dirk Kuyt avoiding the penalty area!

The boardroom problems seem to be offering our abject team yet another convenient excuse to hide under.

The performance against Villa was once again woeful. Whether Benitez likes Alonso or not, the team is screaming out for his creativity when the alternatives are either Kewell performing a sponsored walk or Benayoun impersonating a frightened fugitive.

With both Gerrard and Torres also beginning to look increasingly frustrated with this shambles, the mess has to be sorted out quickly, from top to bottom!

                  Anthony Coleman, West Derby

IF THE current turmoil at the club results in Rafa Bentiez being forced to leave Anfield then we won't see the start of a new manager's five year plan, we'll see the end of Liverpool as a club who give managers the time and support necessary to build a successful squad.

It's strange that some sections of our fanbase seem to think that we have a God-given right to be successful in the league, especially when Wenger and Ferguson's records show the difficulty of a manager's first few seasons in this competition - and the difficulty of the Champions League at any point.

Whether you think Rafa is a good manager or not though, fans have to realise that his departure would set a precedent for all future Liverpool managers who have a disappointing first half to a season.

Sack Rafa and in five years time we won't be getting accustomed to a new managers completed squad, we'll be sacking our tenth manager since 2008.

Ofcourse 99% of the fans will continue to buy merchandise & come through the turnstyles no matter what, suppose them knowing this is what bugs me most, after all my slagging off of them i've done, after all the threats i've made, i like you will still put my money into the club, how could i not.

Chill out. All people who claim to have insider info get this on all forums, it is because so many have been full of **** and on a wind up. I read you posts with interest on this, pray they are true but I don't take them as fact but I also don't totally dismiss them. No one should take anything like this as fact.
You also need to remember that your the person that said the deal would be dne in days, it now looks like it wont happen so people are calling you out on your info, it is perfectly reasonable as if you were right people would put more weight in your posts but if you are proven wrong then they will be take them with some scepticism.

Without having any insider info. I do not think DIC will just all of a sudden end their interest. Not after coming back a second time. They obviously have a genuine interest, it seems that G & H want to make the club as attractive as they can to potential buyers before they sell. Just hope they don't put too high a price tag on the club.

                          ...

So we have a Hicks/Gillett-situation, where they alomst have got the refinancing settled as describes above..

                          - if that falls through, then DIC can move in and offer 220M£ as a way out for the two Yanks (or should it be 290?).

                          - if the refinancing goes through, then DIC can offer 300 for the KOP ltd. with the club - and either take the rest back to the bank (as they are for the stadium) or get them out of the way in another way.

Rigth NOW it would be stupid, if DIC had made an offer - as the situation puts pressure on the two Yanks - and the price will be settled after what they manage to strike with the RBS/Vachobia.

Therefore - WE JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND HOPE FOR THE BEST FUTURE FOR LFC!!!!

--- by the way - had this thread been on KOPTALK Inc. Ltd. International, then there would have been a seperate sub-forum for it, and there would have been a section for newpaper-quotes ets. I just love this mix of everything, as long a ppl. can avoid abusing each other for nothing.

There arre a number of points to make - the direct money from success is not the only thing which it brings it also increases indirect revenue like merchandising and influences the number of people we get at matches (or will do when we have a vast new stadium).

The business model however you look at it requires continual success to the point of at least getting to the CL every year.

As all of the options including DIC are looking to run us as a profitable enterprise the drive to spend to achieve success will have to be balanced against the money that that success will bring us. As Arsenal have shown the right buying strategy over the long term can mean that you don't need more than say £25m to spend a year.

Our ability to challenge both domestically and in the CL is dependent on a number of factors including the manager and the stability of the club. For me we have the right manager but certainly domestically that is far from a certainty. My problem with the Americans currently is that they have bought instability and uncertainty into all the club does.

This is not a sustainable way to run a succesful football club. However there are numerous ways this could be rectified.

The first and most obvious key to it is for them to ensure the ability to pay for the new stadium without substantially reducing our ability to improve the squad. Until we see what happens there I don't think we can make any judgment on how the futuire will look.

Arsenal refinanced their debt several times as economic circustances dictated and I see us doing the same.

Not really I just don't believe all your inane posts about Parry negotiating with DIC with regards to the re finance of the club by Hicks and Gillett. I also tend to believe Tony Barrett above anyone who has so called sources as he has daily contact with the club and Rafa.

All reports claim that the re finance is near enough done and that DIC will only bid if it can't be sorted or it hits a snag. So until someone can prove to me that all these conspiracy theories are actually correct then I stand by my hunch that Hicks and Gillett will be with us for the long haul.
