IF I was to make a criticism, it would have been the fact that Crouch didnt start. Rafa said he brought him for tought away games. Now we have two home games coming up that i think kuyt and bellamy would have worked well in.

Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Is it not possible to say pennant had one **** of a game without being accused of being on a witch hunt against him? He was ****, end of. Kept getting caught in possesion, and coming inside too often and flooding the midfield because he was scared to take cole on. He is exactly what we needed, a winger who stays out wide and delivers crosses. So Im on no witch hunt, just pointing out that he didnt do the job yesterday that we signed him for, and had a ****e game

I too believe that Pennant had a bad game yesterday. OK, he was running with the ball but that was the only thing he did. However, he did put in some crosses, but it's not his fault if there's not a Liverpool shirt in the penalty area. Kuyt was there a few times, but what can you do between Terry and Carvalho...
Pennant had a poor game yesterday, but TBH, Liverpool just wasn't Liverpool!

If I was to make critisism, I would definitely leave Zenden at home and put Gonzalez on the bench.Originally posted by bazza76IF I was to make a criticism, it would have been the fact that Crouch didnt start. When Bollock was sent off Rafa put Zenden on (for Sissoko?!?!?!) and he thought Zenden would do something... OK, he wasn't that bad, but still... Imagine Gonzalez on the left, Gerrard and Alonso in the middle and Pennant on the right. Surely we would have "more possibilites"
And I think Rafa needs to stop playing Gerrard out of his position! This is getting ridiciolus! We have 3-4 left wingers (Gonzalez, Garcia, Zenden, Kewell - okay, Kewell's injured) in the squad and we play Gerrard there. What's up with that, FFS?!Torres Fan Club Member #2, Lucas Leiva Fan Club Member #1

Exactly. It is possible to think he had a **** game but also back him to the hilt at the match and think he will come good for us.Originally posted by paulcooper4Is it not possible to say pennant had one **** of a game without being accused of being on a witch hunt against him? There were so many times yesterday where Pennant received the ball with absolutely acres of space, and either hit the fullback with his cross, lost the ball, or had to roll it back to Finnan because he couldn't find a way through. I don't know what was up with him yesterday because as a crosser of the ball I rate him very highly.Like blood on iron

Pennant was the "outlet" yesterday - so much time and space, yet consistantly found the first defender. Poor showing.
Pennant wasn't the only player underperforming, but he had the potential to be the most influential player on the pitch and fluffed it.

Pennants delivery was poor yesterday but everyone knows he can deliver a great ball and a couple of bad games doesnt mean he is crap.
People are saying he was a panic buy which is absolute rubbish, rafa tried to sign him before he went to brum and also in the january transfer window last year.

He'll be gutted at his performance I'm sure because he can produce so much more than that, and will do for us in the future.Like blood on iron

I thought Pennant was pretty poor to be honest against Chelsea. He doesnt have the ability to beat his man on the outside regularly. All too often when he had one on ones with Cole, he cut inside. Compare this to Robben when he came on. He immediately looked to take our defenders on, and could have easily had a penalty when Agger/Carra sandwiched him in the box. Pennant nover once did that sort of penetrative run.
Then again, we shouldn't expect him to, Pennant is a good premier league player, no more, whereas Robben is a good international player.AKA Heighway No9

I read that Pennant completed more crosses than any other player in the Premier League last season, one average game doesnt make him a bad buy or a bad player. He almost completed a successfull assist had Crouch have scored, I was happy with the option that Pennant gave us yesterday, was always available for the ball, and DID actually beat players yesterday. The season is young, way too early to be saying that he is not good enough for LFC, he can do a job for us and i'm sure he has alot to contribute to our season.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
