    ghoul of a thread alright....

i actually think to sack benitez would be the stupidist thing that could happen..... and although i would obviously still support liverpool fc, i would find it difficult to support the new manager or anyone else the board put in for a long time..... we'd become a villa (the ellis years!), spurs or newcastle type of jokeshop club....we really would

But do you agree with the fact that the first player we go for this summer is a Central Midfielder? I myself find that totally bizarre. It's not a great way to spend a supposedly limited budget. We need wingers and full backs more than a central midfielder I feel. It's those kinds of decisions that I find strange
It does appear a little strange at first glance, but there are several counter points. Firstly, we really don't know what Rafa's transfer list is like, or how much money will be afforded him. We certainly need full backs and at least one more quality attacking player as a priority, but the first prime target being revealed as Barry doesn't really preclude that from happening at all. Last summer the first proper signing was Benayoun - that didn't prevent our major signings being Torres and Babel. I think JohnDoe's thread on here about him provides a reasonable thesis as to why Rafa might be after Barry, and although he wouldn't be my ideal signing, were he to be the first player in I also wouldn't be upset unless our other signings didn't address the major issues within the squad

For example I think we could have gotten more points from at least some of these games:

Reading Away - A truly mind-boggling formation with Crouch employed as a left-winger.
Birmingham Home - Torres only on for the last 30 minutes.
Birmingham Away - Reserve team due to other priorities
Wigan Home - Torres the only recognised striker to start, Crouch and Kuyt sent on with 5 minutes to go after they equalise.
Boro Away - A horrible performance from Voronin.
Villa Home - Unlucky perhaps, but we didn't seek to kill the game off soon enough.
I don't disagree about the specific games, although I could counter with several games we've taken points from where the performance didn't perhaps deserve them. What I'm asking is more whether, looking at our squad on paper, you believe that it is worth significantly more points than we got. Because I don't really. I genuinely think that, objectively, taking the sum of all the parts in our current squad, somewhere around the mid 70's, about 10 points off the eventual winners, is probably around par. We certainly do not have the best squad, or first XI, in the league imo.

We need a manager who will not set us out to not lose a game, we should be looking to win and attack every opponent no matter who they are! We are Liverpool ffs!!!

I long for attacking exciting football like we had with Barnes, Beardsley and co.

The man who I would like to take us forward is Gus Hiddink.
If we're in the same position a year from now you might be onto something.

He has to have a good summer buying and selling though. Goes without saying really.

But El Jefecito, that's the squad Rafa went on to win the Champions League with in his first season, it must've been good........

To be perfectly honest I am not too happy that Rafa still has not won the league or even put up a good challenge for the title. However, the consecutive runs in the champions league coupled with a Carling Cup final and an FA Cup in my eyes are enough to give him another season atleast. Take a look at Alex Ferguson, how many years did it take him to build his team? He signed for Utd in 1986? Won the league in 1992? thats 5 or 6 season it took him to build up his team. Ok he did not have the money, but he most certainly didn't have 3 other world class teams with mega bucks around him. The points needed for winning the EPL has now exceeded 90. This is a huge target and requires 25+ wins in a season, this cannot be acheived over a few years. Look at the "quality" Rafa had when he arrived! Biscan, Traore, Dudek, Baros....all average players that have ended up at mid-table teams. He also had the stumbling block of transfer money, however much people like to say he has had his fair share, yes he has, but he has had to buy to sell, this is evident! He then had the problem of attracting big names and the ongoing saga of the takover which has loomed over the club for the last 4 years or more, before the yanks landed. I think it's time people stopped calling for his head, give him more time, give him more money, we all agree two or three more players are needed...let him have another season, another summer of big spending and then at the end of next season lets judge him then, 2 summers of big spending, 5 years in charge...Why appoint a new manager now? Surely it would guarentee that we would not win the league for 2 years atleast, no new manager can win a league over night, not in this modern day, when there are in the EPL's case, 4 worthy "Heavyweights" unlike the La Liga which at present is all Barca and Madrid.

I suggest you take a walk back to Redcafe.

squad player at best, no where near good enough for the pool
Only mufc call us by that, you've been rumbled.

Rafa has wasted too much cash on bum buys! now it is time for him to go!!!

                          Rafa out!!
                          Posted in January.

Well as we've only managed 1 point from 21 out of Man U since Rafa took over, how the hell can you lot think we will win?

                          2 nil Utd
I was disgusted by some of our fans yesterday, coach next to us was full of young lads singing munich songs!!
We can't win the league this season. :bird:

Next year is definitely our year though!
A phrase often used by mufc as a pisstake.

Looks like they've learnt the classic Euro performance this season, which is a bit of a worrying sign.
                          Re United v Barca.

Sorry but I have to say, that is bollocks. He dives! end of.
                          Re: Gerrard.

The guy is on a wind up.

Are you seriously using Gareth Barry and Kenwyne Jones to question Rafa's position, funny last time I checked they were still playing for Villa and Sunderland, unless you know something the rest of us don't?!!

Not to mention the fact that Barry can also play FB, which is one of the positions you listed as a 'need'...
