Sadly, the modern game dictates instant success. As a club low on cash and falling further behind financially as each season passes, we cannot afford to spend so much money on kids in the hope that one day they will be 1st class. The big 3 will be too far ahead of us by then.Originally posted by BFG View PostA more pertinent question might be how many of these kids have we lost money on or will lose money on when we sell them?
Not many I'd say and I think we'll see a profit overall on the young players we have when they are sold or move up to the first team.
The reality is that the majority of the youngsters will amount to nothing (as history has shown) and will leave on a free after several seasons out on loan. Those are my opinions and I'd be happy to bet money that I'm proved right.

Yes, they MIGHT have got injured. So MIGHT Torres but he didn;t and he made a difference. You have to take the risks to succeed. Otherwise, why not sell Torres and buy 6 cheaper strikers so we can cover injuries?Originally posted by red g View Postwho could have got injured? and for ****s sake give the bloke a chance!! he has only been getting young talent for a couple of seasons so they are not ready yet.

The bit in bold I agree with completely so, just like Arsenal have, it makes perfect sense that we invest in youth so that we are more self sufficient in the future.Originally posted by carheex View PostSadly, the modern game dictates instant success. Having less money surely proves that we can't go out and risk all our money on one or two players (that may not even be successful) and that having a youth setup that brings quality players through and makes money on the one's we don't want is pivotal to the future of LFC?"My commitment to Liverpool is 100 per cent. I would die for that Liverpool shirt. I think the club loves me and I feel the same, no matter what the situation." - Pepe Reina, Nov '09.

In theory yes, but it hasn't worked. At this moment in time and they way football is going, we need to improve the 1st team as a massive priority. Once that is sorted, then we can think maybe think about the youths. It's no good spending million and millions on youngsters when we're only just scraping into the CL places in the league. We're told there is a shortage of funds and that is why some top names have eluded us. When you think how much ahs gone into the youth system for no benefit whatsoever, it has to make you wonder are we spending money in the right places?Originally posted by BFG View PostThe bit in bold I agree with completely so, just like Arsenal have, it makes perfect sense that we invest in youth so that we are more self sufficient in the future.

It's only since last summer that we've put serious resources into the youth setup so we're hardly going to see massive results in one year. It's an ongoing process mate, you don't plant an acorn then dig it up a day later because you're pissed off you haven't got an oak tree.
Noone really knows how much money we have or don't have at the present time. Rafa's hardly going to come out and say "we have loads of dosh, rip us off no?"
I believe we have the money to strengthen the positions Rafa sees fit and recruit some young lads that hopefully will make up some of our team in years to come. Wenger's youth setup took years to come to fruition but now it's the envy of European football. I believe Rafa is doing the same and isn't shortsighted enough to blow all our money on one or two players who may not perform anyway."My commitment to Liverpool is 100 per cent. 4th place is the last place of guaranteed CL spots so by that justification yes we scraped in.Originally posted by BFG View Post4 Liverpool 38 21 13 4 67 28 +39 76

The point I'm trying to make is that I want to see us signing a player or 2 that make me think, "yep, this could make a lot of difference to our title challenge this year". The signing of half a dozen youths who may or may not make the grade in 2011 doesn't get me particularly excited and I doubt it has Chelsea or Utd quaking in their boots either!

The simple answer to that is the window is still open mate.Originally posted by carheex View Post4th place is the last place of guaranteed CL spots so by that justification yes we scraped in.

Watching that, I'm particularly impressed with both the way he gets fouled and the way he runs on the pitch as a substitute. The manner in which he doesn't score goals is also quite mouth watering.Originally posted by livvy145 View PostFound this clip of him. Dosn't really tell you much apart from his obvious pace and erm.....
