At the time most of us thought Rafa was buying a talented winger at a cut price.Without Pennant we would have had less options.

What did you think of my reply to that post? Because to be honest it's a difficult one. It comes down to sacraficing the short-term for the long-term and as we all know managers are judged in the short-term.

Is it because we are after bigger targets?

People know we have more money because of the yanks
(but they don't want us to think they are loaded)

Rafa not being very apt in this dept as well as a breakdown in relations early on?
              I'm not sure I follow.

Think it's safe to say that our transfer policy is a farce, that no-one seems to be responsible and no-one really knows who is calling the shots.

i think we spent for the sake of it and your reply may or may not be right (the upgrading the squad bit) but did he really get us the final ? would we of got there without him?

At the time we got JP we filled a position with the best player available with the funds at our disposal.

If only everyone else would stop and think long enough to be able to post this.

I have a slightly different perspective than most. I work in corporate america and the prevailing opinion is that if you have x million in your capital budget then rather than let it sit and erode (due to inflation) invest it in something that will at least maintain it's value. If you were to tell someone not to spend what was in the budget they would laugh you out as a fool.

Could go round in circles on this one. There are some, like myself, who think rather than buying average players like Pennant you'd be better off saving the millions and spending it on someone in the future who becomes available and is of better quality.

We missed out on a few top quality signings because we wouldn't put in an extra million or so. That's why a lot of people get irritated with the signing of Pennant.

That plus the fact he was playing for a relegated club and we ended up paying well over the odds. I think if people are honest they'll acknowledge he has never been a £7m+ player and it was a totally bizarre transfer deal. The fact that a striker plays in his position shows you how poor he really must be.

The thing is we had some youth players also who probably could have stepped up to the plate on the wings and have at least been given a chance to show what they could do

That's pretty much the same in the public sector. Spend your budget or lose it. However, I don't think it's true in the football world to be honest. It doesn't appear the way football operates

Parry has been at the club for some time now and this wasn't going on when Houiller was in charge.

Rafa must have been given a budget for targets by G&H, so someone must be accountable.

Why go public on the Barry transfer so early?

Why does no one want to pay more than 15mill for xabi?
(because he had a **** end of season and wasn't worth it)

Why would it be Parry's fault?

It was Mon who went public with it, before hand it was just paper talk.
