Liverpool fans will always underrate Ferdinand and Terry, but they are the most complete CB's out there. There aren't any defenders in Spain or Italy who match their ability and the consistency of their performances.

Put any stopper next to Ferdinand and the mancs will cope. Vidic is good but he isn't that good. Take Ferdinand out of their team and you'll immediately see the difference. He's the most complete defender out there, like it or not.

I'd pick Terry ahead of Carvalho any day of the week. There are plenty of good, tough tackling CB's in the mould of Carvalho, but find me a CB more dominating in the air than John Terry. Find me someone who's got a better positional sense than he's got.

Evra, Lahm and Cole are not good enough defenders to be in a world 11. Good going forward, but they are fullbacks, not wingers.

Mascherano, good at what he does, it not a complete enough player to get into such a team. Not good enough passing, nor shooting.

Puyol is for me, overrated. Heart and soul, yes, but often makes mistakes.
Probably a bit like we view Carra.

Ramos, good, but too inconsistent and rash at times. I reckon he would be the right back anyway though.

I find it really hard to pick the best defense, especially now that I have slaughtered a few players above

Torres

I think that is fairly accurate going forward.
Ribery and Xavi are knocking, but that's it. Aguero is another, as is Etoo.

Buffon is still an excellent keeper, and perhaps better than Casillas.
Nesta and Grosso, have been good for Italy, but not quite there.
I reckon Terry would be hard to leave out.
As for Ferdinand, I don't rate him.
Zanetti is still very good.
Maybe Mertesacker is a contender.

if you're putting a world 11 together you wouldn't have a holding midfielder in, no matter how good he was - Mascherano, Momo or Didi are amazing but my dream team, as everybody's should be, is so good going forward, we don't have to defend.

This “Puyol is ****” stuff is a total fallacy. He’s the Barca captain and he’s Spain’s outfield leader (Casillas may be skipper but Puyol is the heartbeat). A top defender, although he wouldn't get in my world XI.
