calling DegAn a failure is slightly harsh

Reina, Skrtel, Agger, Carra, Xabi, Masch, Gerrard, Torres, are good enough to play in any side in the world.

Gerrard and Torres would improve any side in the world

I'd pick Terry ahead of Carvalho any day of the week. There are plenty of good, tough tackling CB's in the mould of Carvalho, but find me a CB more dominating in the air than John Terry. Find me someone who's got a better positional sense than he's got.

Yeah, they're both horrible cunts, but they're world class cunts. End of.
Both Ferdinand and Terry are exceptional but I think you under rate Carvalho and Vidic. They are in the same bracket for me. Before Vidic came Ferdinand and the United defense looked much less secure and last season Chelsea did better in games when Terry didn't play.

Terry gets found out in Europe to some degree - not sure what the difference is between there and the PL as I don't watch them enough but he always looks more shaky in the CL (I know Chelsea fans who think this too).

Terry definitely gets found out in Europe to some degree, and even more so with the England team IMO.

This doesn't really apply to Ferdinand, who is a class act.

He is but he needs a strong intelligent player along side him IMO.

In a way I have to agree with you about Terry for England as if he and Ferdinand played as well for England as they do for their clubs we ought to be the best partnership in the world. My feeling is that it is one moron too many for a CB partnership.

Terry finds the European game more difficult because sides aren't lumping as many crosses and long balls into the area, something he deals with easily, and get into the danger zone through short passing and quick exchanges through the middle, continental style. Since Terry hasn't got the pace Ferdinand has, and he partners with a CB who isn't quicker either, Chelsea's defence is less suited to deal with European sides than the mancs.

I think Mascherano is the best holding player in the world but there are others who are maybe not as good definsively but superb at being all round midfielders and in a world XI EVERY player should be technically gifted. My CM partnership would be Pirlo and Gerrard.

                  Casillas
                  Alves Ferdinand Terry Evra
                  Messi Gerrard Pirlo Ronaldo
                  Torres Aguero

None, we have a few players whom we could lump in the top 5 players in their position in the world. But I wouldn't say any of our players is really world class being that they are indisputably the best in their position. i.e. I prefer Kaka to Gerrard as an attacking midfielder and depending on formation there are better central midfielders. I think that Buffon is a tad better than Reina and it could be debated that Casillas and one or two others are too. It's easy to say that our players are the best but you any team could easily look at their squad and get the players whom excel and make a debate. It's hard for me to say that Torres is the best striker in the world by a long shot, especially given his averageness for prolonged periods in Spain especially when we've seen other players whom are lower rated than him have better assist and goal ratios for their clubs and NT's even in his national team for example.

The only player that I would say is almost a definite is Mascherano as the best holding mid in the world.

Tbh who gives a toss, as long as we play well and win games it doesn't really matter. Rather have a team which is the best in the world than having one or two players who would fill a spot (which they might not) on any team in the world.

Apparently it depends on the manager and what tactics/formation he would like to play.

Puyol is one of the most over-rated defenders in the world.

He is slow, poor movement, a whinger and is only in the Spain squad because he plays for Barcelona. If he played for Racing Santander for example, he would not be in the first team (for Spain)
