Yeah and blah blah blah. Footballers aren't machines.Originally posted by rage View Posti'm still cold, don't know what u guys saw on the telly but we were lucky to leave with the 3 points. we were awful.
no idea what formation we played 4411 maybe but it didn't work. today showed why we need agger in the team as neither hypia or carra can really bring the ball out well enough, they tried mind as portsmouth just played for the draw.
attack wise we were far to narrow, kuyt whilst having improved will never succeed as a lone striker and pennant and lucas were awful. i'd go as far as to say lucas is worse than diao!
i agree that portsmouth offered virtually no threat but i expect most teams to line up this way against the league leaders and we need to come up with a bit more creativity if we are to remain at the top

Another win without Torres
Top of the table on merit
and our best player returning soon
Magnificent !
And yet Rage continues to be unhappy, Just imagine his comment if he'd won the lottery
"it's ok winning 10 mill but I'll only get 5% interest"
Some people just don't know when they're well off.

You're lucky you had the Setanta commentator...i stayed away from the tv and radio til 12, then watched it on LFC TV...and Mark Wright was co-commentator, and spent the entire game whinging about Babel not hugging the touch line...even said at one point there's no point him cutting inside onto his weaker foot....I thought he was right footed????Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostSuperb result. Totally disagreed with the Setanta commentator - it was one-way traffic and we played some good stuff at times. Onwards.
An incredible night in the Premiership. Goals galore. Can't wait for MOTD.

Not the most satisfactory performance ever, against a team that showed absolutely no ambition whatsoever,
there will be loads of teams with that approach
but its the result that counts and hopefully we'll now have a few important players (Riera, Mascher, Agger, Keane) raring to go against Spurs at the weekend.

we got lucky and there is no way it'll continue all season. of course i'm happy with the result but the performance was as bad as anything i've seen in recent times. i'd rather this is addressed then pretend otherwise. did u watch the game?Originally posted by Fan65 View PostAnother win without Torres

Lucas was good. Won the ball well (more than anyone else), always got it out to the designated hitters. Got forward when he could without exposing us.
Pretty much what Rafa wants from someone in that role. Can't really ask him to do anymore than he's asked to do!
Justify rubbish for me. Did he give the ball away a lot? yes. Did he pass it well? sideways yes. Did he win the ball back a lot? he won some headers but no he didn't win the ball back a lot
So, rubbish? Explain.he wouldn't get into arsenal, utd or chelseas team,

I agree, Lucas needs these games against stubborn opponents to get used to the Premiership, he is still a bit lightweight but that will come. I think he plays in a difficult position and was by all accounts more of a box to box player in Brazil.Originally posted by El Jefecito View PostApparently, Riera had a knock, which I guess is why Babel had to play left.
People need to remember that Lucas is not the finished article, he's still developing and we need to get him games as and when we can. We also need to keep him primed ready to come in in case someone is injured.
I also think people need to adjust their expectations for Lucas. He is being asked to play a very specific role. Win the ball. Get it to Xabi / SG to attack. Get forward if you can. You can only look so good when your role is to enable others to play better. In a way, his job is not to win games, but to put others in a position to win games. He has a team role and alas those players don't get the glory, but they don't deserve to be pilloried.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

To be fair, I don't think it did, but that was more to do with the formation imo.Originally posted by fredo View PostNo according to Rage and Sarb.
We were lucky to come away with the 3 points, but then you have to note that we will be playing 3 games in 7 days and home to Portsmouth is the game to rest a few rather than away to Spurs.
We had the possession, we knocked the ball about, but very rarely did we actually make a chance (just Bennys that I can recall), everything else came from a free kick or shot from outside the box.
Should be plenty of players fresh for Saturday now though
"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."
I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."
