UEFA TIP YOUNG RED FOR STARDOM

    Jimmy Rice 19 May 2009

UEFA have named Academy ace Christopher Buchtmann as one of their top 10 stars of the future.
The left-back, who turned 17 last month, was one of the standout performers as Germany clinched the European U17 Championship on Monday.

Buchtmann has also impressed in helping Liverpool Under-18s reach the FA Youth Cup final.

The official UEFA list is as follows:

Patrick ter Mate (Netherlands) - Vitesse/AGOVV Academy Cutodian
Janick Kamber (Switzerland) - FC Basel 1893
Marc Muniesa (Spain) - FC Barcelona
Dennis Appiah (France) - AS Monaco
Marco Fossati (Italy) - FC Internazionale
Deniz Herber (Turkey) - FC St. Pauli
    Christopher Buchtmann (Germany) - Liverpool
    Jack Wilshere (England) - Arsenal
Lennart Thy (Germany) - Werder Bremen
    Luc Castaignos (Netherlands) - Feyenoord

Feels oddly great to have someone on that list. The youngsters coming through in the next few years could be explosive. I hope at least one of them is a major success..we haven't had a 'Liverpool wonderkid' for too long

I wonder if Le Tallec and Pongolle were on a similar list a few years ago

We're definitely due one. And after all the money we've spent bringing in kids from all over, it'd be nice.

Might as well play him on Sunday

Le Tallec taught me an important lesson never to ever rate a player ever again until he's played at least 10 games in the premiership alone for us.

Pretty sure Benayoun was on one of these lists.
Well, here we are in a room with two manky hookers and a racist dwarf. I think I'm heading home.

Nothing wrong with that, all players have a part to play in the team. Maldini was just as instrumental to Milan's success as was Desailly, Donadoni, Albertini, Van Basten et al. Not to say Buchtmann is the next Maldini because it will take something special for someone to come anywhere near him but they all can play a huge integral part to our teams future success.

I remember seeing Gregory Vignal in a Uefa top 20 list back in 2001!
Jellyfish are 97% water or something, so how much are they doing? Just give them another 3% and make them water. It's more useful

Actually I think he is more of a left mid, or left wing. I think I read on the offal some time ago that they play him as a back to improve his defensive awareness and positioning, because going forward he's already got it.

Does anyone actually bother getting excited about the next "wonderkid" coming through the system ?

I admit to being a bit "excited" about Nemeth and Pacheco, although that has subsided somewhat since last season. Dalla Valle looks a real prospect though.

I think this is the case.
From the little I`be seen he has great crosses, and free-kicks/corner. He can also go past players.
