    Found the article:

Away from the Academy, Chris Buchtmann is continuing to excel in the under-17s' European Championship in Germany.

It's been great to watch him doing so well on television and we hope he can continue his fine form in the youth Cup final when he returns.

He arrived at the Academy as a left midfielder, although he has played a number of matches at left-back for Hugh McAuley's side this year. He may well prefer to play on the left of midfield, but we feel that he has benefitted from playing at full-back because he has been able to improve the defensive side of his game.

We all know about his capability in attack but you also need to know how to get back and help out defensively and I think he is starting to see that.

He's become a much more rounded player as a result and Germany are reaping the rewards of that in the tournament.

Nope. Such a small percentage of so-called wonderkids ever make any impact that i can't be bothered with it all.

i always find it quite exiting to follow a players career from the start, and watch them in youth tournies, and so on.

not all of them can make it, but for those who do, it well worth it.

and there's a lot more than 10 prospects in europe, this uefa list could easily include 50 players

from what i recall of Jon Welsh there was always question marks over his talent to make it at the very top

I know nemeth has had a few injuries so i don't want to be too harsh on him but i doubt he will make it! he is actually older than Ngog! and nemeth hasn't even had a look in yet when the likes of insua darby spearing plessis have featured.

For me Dalla Valle certainly looks promising, and i have also liked the look of ince and pepper - but to be honest i just can't get excited about anyones chances in the ressies/youth coming through - none seem to get a real chance or look in.

                  isn't nemeth 19 and n'gog 20 years old?

edit: apparently nemeth is 3 months older

Insua has from the reserves, as has El Zhar to a lesser extent.

It is an interesting question but will any of the current reserve/youth setup be able to offer competition in any of the positions we need it: right back, fourth CB, either flank, striker?

The only player I think might have a real role next year is Ngog. I think players like Nemeth need to get some competitive football in the hope that it brings them on either to be ready for the first team (at least in a Bendtner type way) or to be sold for a good value. If the link up with Almeria comes off then that might prove a good way of getting some players a number of games at a decent level - do they have a B side in a competitive league?

Jeebus! If you can't get a game ahead of someone like Plessis then it's definitely time to rethink your career.

its also fair to say spearing and Darby are on the fringes.
Just like last year i think we will bring in an experienced RB as he didnt trust insua in that back up role last year and Darby is not as advanced as insua by all accounts, so have no reason to believe he will be given the back up RB role.

Its such a huge leap from Ressies to PL competitive games now.....how many from Chelsea, Arsenal, Scum, Liverpool have made a succesful step up in the last few years?
Arsenal no doubt have the most and have been the least succesful of all the 4 clubs mentioned

If youre not getting a game by the time youre 19, youre not gonna make it at a club like Liverpool.

How old was he when he was brought in?

Cream rises and if youre part of the under 18's, if youre not getting a sniff of the first team by the time youre 19/20 then youre not gonna make it at Liverpool. Sure you might get a run out but then youre on your way.

All the best players are regualars by the time they are 20. Owen, Fowler, Rooney, Ronaldo, Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, Gerrard, Carragher, Messi etc etc. All of them playing regular first team footy before they turned 20.
