Yeah I can see that does it not depend how much playing time they get aswell though. I can see the players like Owen and Kluivert who were regulars in their teams at a young age suffered like that, but if you bring them in carefully and don't rely on them too much you don't have the same problemsThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

That is probably not true for centre backs and goal keepersOriginally posted by The Glove View PostIf youre not getting a game by the time youre 19, youre not gonna make it at a club like Liverpool.

Benitez seems to me to be naturally conservative and because of that he is going to bring young players through slowly and deliberately so as to maximize their chance of succeeding. Don't confuse that with not trusting the players.
Also remember every year the squad gets better. What was good enough to make the first team last year in theory should not be good enough to make the squad this year (Alas Dossena didn't do a whole lot to support that theory).
Carheex: Youngsters are important because they learn to play the liverpool way (tactically and mentally), we shouldn't have the issues we've had with Keane and Babel, for example. They are cheaper (fee + wages), which is important for us. They are "english" (home grown) even if they are not and they are hungry.

Agree, however i would still like to see more appearances of the youth/ressies.Originally posted by BrianF80 View PostBenitez seems to me to be naturally conservative and because of that he is going to bring young players through slowly and deliberately so as to maximize their chance of succeeding. The problem with our reserve team is there are some good prospects such as Darby, Nemeth, Pacheco and Spearing but for me none of them have a great chance of making it at liverpool, although i am huge fans of the lads dont get me wrong. The rest are just not going to cut it (reserves) and deep down we all know that.
On a side note i have seen Pacheco improve this year quite well, seems to get more stuck in when he plays and is definately better physically.
The youth team is a whole different story imo. We have a great amount of exciting players such as Dalle Valle who i think under the right guidance, and continues to improve we will see more of.
Also like the look of Amoo and Tom Ince, Ince really excites me he is technically brilliant as is Amoo.
Finally Ecclestone and Wisdom. Ecc has seemed to die down since last year but from what i have seen this year he is still very talented and could still have a chance of pushing for the first team if things go his way. And wisdom, well for a 16 year old to be playing at U18 level for his country says it all, a real one for the future.

Me too, and if we could stay in the cups and put games to bed early, I think there would have been more opportunities. Unfortunately we didn't do either of those very well earlier in the season.Originally posted by Mike_lfc View PostAgree, however i would still like to see more appearances of the youth/ressies.

There is something very wrong with the reserves, I'd like to know why Ablett is getting the sack (allegedly) because last season for me Nemeth and Plessis looked like near certainties to kick-on but somehow both have fallen away alarmingly (along with the rest of the team) San Jose being the sole exception.
BTW I've never rated Pachecho, I've never really seen him do anything any good. Maybe he just needs better players around him.

I've read the whole thread and for me people seem to be missing the obvious point. The premier league is a very physichal and demanding league. The development of Nemeth and Pacheco would not be best served by playing week in, week out in this league.
A more physichal player like Plessis and N'gog is always going to get the nod early doors over a player like Spearing and Nemeth. The reason being because they can cope better with the demands.
Liverpool at present do have quite a few good prospects but virtually everyone of them is lightweight and as such will come slowly through the ranks. I can't be bothered checking but I'd say that Plessis and Spearing are roughly the same age. Plessis came to the fore originally because he is built more powerfully than Spearing. Now Spearing has caught up slightly (bulk wise) he has been the player who we now see on the fringe.
Based on my theory I would say that Plessis may as well pack his bags now as despite being physichally ready for the league he is not good enough. On the flip side it seems Spearing may well be good enough and is only now getting close to being physichally ready.
The first battle in the premier league is to win the physichal duels. After that you let your football do the talking. If you can't compete physichally you can get bullied out of games. It was no suprise to me to see our young players make their debuts in Europe. You could point to the homegrown rule and the PSV game being a dead rubber.
But the Real Madrid home game was not a dead rubber and we had plenty of experienced players who could have made the bench ahead of Spearing. I think Benitez saw that type of contest as one better suited to blooding Spearing.
The fact Jay and Darby recently signed new contracts proves to me that they do have a future here. And if they continue to make slow, steady progress next year I'll be happy enough.Forwards.......

Really enjoyed reading your posts mate. Interesting reading about the upcoming players - I never get to see them myself.Originally posted by BrianF80 View PostMe too, and if we could stay in the cups and put games to bed early, I think there would have been more opportunities. However, on Pacheco never doing anything good. Last pre season he looked our best player!K ris90210

Cheers. TBH I can't remember Pachecho as far back as pre-season, I thought Nemeth did well though he got an assist and won a penalty.Originally posted by kris90210 View PostReally enjoyed reading your posts mate. Interesting reading about the upcoming players - I never get to see them myself.

BTW If you want to follow the reserves etc you should get the eseason ticket on the offal. It's well worth it.
