All the best players are regualars by the time they are 20. Owen, Fowler, Rooney, Ronaldo, Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, Gerrard, Carragher, Messi etc etc. All of them playing regular first team footy before they turned 20.
Fair point, he is 20 now and made his debut for us 2 years ago.

Not sure i would agree that they have to be regulars by 20, think the game has moved on since 10/15 years ago when most of the aforementioned players made there debuts.

But i do agree that they have to be at least on the fringes

I think they almost certainly have to have played competitive football by that sort of age. Not convinced it has to be for us though.

Thing is, if you look at the bulk of the great players now, they all seem to have been around for years yet they are all about 23/24. Van persie, Fabergash, Rooney, Ronaldo, Torres, Messi etc. All names we have known now for ages yet they are still young men. They all came onto the scene when they reached their late teens.

If any of the current lads at Liverpool were gonna make it as a first team regular, they'dve been atleast making the bench regular by now.

Wasnt Rafa pissed at the players coming from the Acadamy, them not being good enough so thats why he wanted control of it?

By coincidence I was talking up this lad to some Liverpool supporter mates last week down here in London, who hadn't seen him play, so I was pleased to see that he's so highly rated by others.

He looks a cracking prospect, good on the ball and uses it well, intelligent, skilful and looks very classy. It's hard to look like a quality player in an unglamorous position like left-back, so that says a lot for him.

Keep an eye on him in the Youth Cup final

            I agree with the glove

I use nemeth purely has an example - but he has been here as ressie/youth player for something like 2 maybe more years, and during that time has been mentioned as a top youngster, one for the future, and when he is ready he will be class - yet rafa went out and paid £1.5m or whatever it was for a striker who is 3 months younger than nemeth and went on to feature about 15 times or so in his first season!!!

If nemeth was anywhere close to ngog then surely we would have seen him once!!! So for me thats a major concern, when a talked about young star reaches 20 and he has not got close to game, he ain't going to make it here imo - bold statement maybe but i just can't see it.

To be fair i'd forget about el zhar - but I will make an even bolder statement here - other than insua who looks like he has the best chance of featuring - I can't see Spearing, Darby, El Zhar, Plessis, Nemeth, Pacheco, and i could prob add a few other names to the list, making 100 appearences between them! maybe even 50!!

aye - he certainly looks like the best prospect (though i have only watched him a handful of times) but now comes the time, i think he is 17, 18 in september! so for me he has to make the break through in the next year or so. I am not expecting him to come in and be michael owen! - but I would like to be at this stage next year and say, well dalle valle played a game or two in the carling cup and had a couple of sub appearences and he looked the part, I can't wait to see him more.

I'd be worried, if this time next year, he is in the 'nemeth position' of coming up to his 19th birthday and isn't close to having a look in.

Maybe I am asking to much, but i am not expecting a michael owen or theo walcott or wayne rooney to blast through the ressies into the first team at the age of 17/18.

But i would like to know or at least see that we have a few lads under the age of 20 that look like they are going to step up to the plate, and are in a position to at least feature a few times

Nemeth has been injured for a large part of this season and has struggled to find his form afterwards, so I can see why he hasn't been brought through yet. Although saying that, he did appear in a few friendlies didn't he, before he was injured?

I think this coming season, providing they stay fit and are playing well, we'll see a few more ressies making their way to the 1st team. Just a bit of patience me thinks.

I completely agree but I think he will likely make the impact of one of those players mentioned. He is very Fowler-esque in my opinion and could be just the second striker we need (obviously he needs time and experience around Torres and whoever we purchase but I think he will make it).

He should be warming the bench at least. The way we have improved I would expect any Carling Cup games to feature far more young players than has been the case so far.

I also expect Rafa will sign a good 5-6 youngsters and offload quite a few too.

The problem for Nemeth was his injuries I think. Sadly came at the wrong time for him and I think his opportunities will be even more limited next year (as I assume we will bring in a striker and Ngog is ahead of him in the pecking order). He should have taken the opportunity to go to Leeds at the start of the season I think. Unless he plays a run of games somewhere he is unlikely to progress.

I agree that the older you get without some sort of breakthrough the less likely it is to come. Just not sure that the door is totally slammed shut.

I'd write of Nemeth's season, his one and only chance of making it at LFC IMO is next year. If he's loaned out I can't see him having a career with us.

I like keeping any eye out for the youth, I dont think anyone with have now will make it apart from this German kid, Nemeth has the potential but injuries has brought his development to a stand still.

Dalla Valle is the next Neil Mellor.

Remember the hype around Mellor though, next Owen scored a goal every game. He is a good player but not good enough for us.

i see ur point, - mellors goalscoring as youth and ressie was unreal, but even when he was banging in them goals he always looked a bit big, and not mobile - i don't think anyone could have doubted him as purely a finisher in the box but he lacked something extra - hopefully dalle valle has it

again mellor is another who had injury problems - i may be wrong but i think he suffered with tendinitis in both knees
