All this planning and info offered, You'd think Craig was off to the North Pole, and not the couple of miles from Anfield to Lime st.

The trains depart at 5:48pm and 6:48pm, so it's basially an hour or so.

        Your plan sounds pretty good

To be fair, all i was asking for was how long it takes and how easy it'd be to get a cab.

The rest of it is courtesy of EST's ever useful band of helpers, always keen to offer advice, information and piss-takery.

it is epic! - there has been more advice offered in here to craig, than in the thread in chat were someone has quit his job and decided to walk from his home in england to rome.

there are 2 bars in the station, the head of steam and the one above M&S so in an hour you can do a mini crawl between the 2

Railway station bars are invariably rubbish. It would be better to stroll around the corner to Cases Street - basically opposite Central Station and no more than 3-4 minutes from Lime Street Station. A pub called the Globe in Cases Street is just brilliant. It's a superb example of a proper city centre pub and has a great atmosphere. Also has a sloping floor, which is a bit bizarre, but the pub is about a thousand times better than the craphole the Head of Steam.

Cheers for that mate, but i'm not gonna be on a night out or anything, as long as i can sit down and while away 45 mins or so, that'll do me.

So, after 55 replies and over 600 views, have you figured it out yet?

Well, i havent got an outright solution actually.

My idea was to try and arrange for the cabbie to meet me at a selection location after the game, but some have implied this wont work.

Maybe i could get the phone number of a taxi firm and pre-book one. If not, i'll just walk around a bit and follow the crowd, see where it takes me.

When i arrive at Lime Street, i assume there'll be cabs lined up there, without the need to book anything.

I usually drive to all games, home and away. Except for away in europe, where a plane comes in handy.

But the petrol costs for a home game are minimum £55, and upto £65 (depending on how much was in the tank to begin with), whereas the train is about £26. Plus, when i drive, i leave at 8:30am.

I can get the train at around 11am and be in Liverpool by 1:30pm. Much better. Plus it means i dont have to worry about parking, M6 toll payment, or not drinking.

In these credit crunch times, i cannot justify £65 for petrol plus £9 for M6 toll.

this is a magnificent pub, one of my favourites with real ale to boot, you can easily while away 45 mins in there and still only be a 5 minute walk max from the station
