I'm glad you agree with me. The Globe truly is a magnificent pub and just a cough and a spit from Lime Street Station. I always make a point of going there when I'm in Liverpool. There just aren't any pubs like it in central London where I, unfortunately, usually have to drink.

In fact Liverpool has far more superb proper pubs in easy reach of the main station than any other English city. After decades of research in cities around the UK, mostly in relation to watching football, but also through work, I think I can speak with some authority!

I have been the globe once before a game and enjoyed it. Decent place

Our usual match day routine is get a train from birkenhead into lime st - jump a taxi up to the grove, which is on breckfield north i think? can never remember anyway I love going the grove, its' a proper liverpool pub, but it's close enough to the ground for walking distance, 5-10 mins so it gets reasonably busy and has a good atmosphere but it is just far enough away from the ground to not get ****ing heaving, so u can actually get the bar - we try to get there min two hours before K.O.

After the game we do one of two things depend on what everyones plans are - either walk through stanley park to the abbey for a pint as my mates grandad lives two doors down so he pops in to see him or the usual plan, start the walk towards town and flag a taxi then go to Rigbys on Dale St for a few beers.

there's an excellent pub around the corner from Rigby's, unfortunately can't remember the name of it, as you look at Rigbys there's one on the corner on the left, go up that street and it's just on your right, make sure you don't go in the door for the corner pub, that's garbage

Take a short detour to Tesco Metro on the way to the Station to get pies and plenty of beer to last the journey ahead.
              Oh I don't know.

Sorry to drag up such an old thread!

I shall be making this journey next week for the Reading game

Getting a cab from the station to Anfield is not a problem..
Printed off some directions to walk it back to Lime St station after but my sense of direction is shocking Is there usually a load of people walking back to the station that i could follow?

                            Milky!

Used to walk back to Limey after games myself. There's always loads walking back into town so if you don't know the way you can easily tag along. Mind you don't get run over on the slipway going to the tunnel
