****ing 'ell.
Inevitable really as this was going to happen sooner or later after last years transfer window. Looks like Alonso wanted to go, and if Rafa had really, really wanted to keep him then he should've told Madrid to **** off as he still has three years left on his contract.
So Rafa gets £30m and Alonso gets his 'dream' move. Good luck to him I guess but it's sick that he couldn't wait just one more year when we're so close to winning number 19.
Ah well, he and Arbeloa will be playing for Villarreal next year probably, because no doubt Madrid will change managers six times during the new season.
Lets hope Rafa spends the rest of his kitty wisely, because at the moment, we're starting to look a bit bare in places. To think that at the end of the previous season we were probably only one or two players away of having a really capable squad, we now most likely have to add a full back, a centre half (or someone who can play across the back four), a new midfielder and perhaps a backup striker - though obviously it's hard to say exactly as it's yet to be seen if Rafa will stick to 4-2-3-1 next year. It's crazy that Alonso and Arbeloa have gone, yet we still have Degen, Dossena, Voronin and - to a certain extent - Babel. Madness.
