Xabi Alonso is a liverpool legend, great mild mannered man, a credit to his family and his country.

He served us well, represented us well on and off the field, and was a vital part of what many of us liverpool mad, webaholic football nuts would call the greatest night of our lives.

He has decided to journey home for what ever the reason, and joined one of the largest clubs in the world, at a hell of an exciting time for them.

Throughout this transfer process, and last summers unending circus of barry/rumour/alonso/juve, he has held his head high, and dealt with it all in a mature mannerly way, the way we lfc fans like to have things dealt with.

He leaves us heading home as a man who tried it in england (not many spanish had), was a success on so many fronts, and returns with a great reputation, and an international, an fa cup winner, a champions league winner, a european championship winner, and a man with some vital experience in big big games.....juve away springs to mind, just back from injury, stevie g out, played the whole game, immense, amoung so many other performances.

He's a big deal in spain, and there are paying for that.

well done xabi, best of luck fella.

and well done to rafa as well, great business I'm buzzing now, when have we ever signed a full back for 18mill and still have @30-40mill to spend!!

To you at least. Or are you suggesting everyone interprets my posts exactly the same way you do?

If you actually read what I said with an open mind then you'd see I said I didn't know. We really can't know at this stage since we don't know who else might be coming in, either as a direct replacement or to strengthen the squad elsewhere. So anyone of the opinion we will automatically be weaker next year is making a guess based on nothing. That's what I was saying.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I think we've got a very good deal all things considered. Feeling more excited about the replacements than upset that he's going. Onwards and upwards.

I can only speak for myself.

I'd read your posts with an open mind if it didnt happen about 90% of the time.

As for what you were saying, i got that. I think it'll be incredibly hard, based on just how good Alonso is in that role, to find someone of a similar or higher quality. That's what i'm saying. I hope i'm proven incorrect.

I'm greatful for everything he's done, but this hurts so much now because of Ronaldo moving away, I really felt we would have the best chance to win the EPL.

This is a severe blow to our chances. I want to be gracious but this is such a bitter pill to swallow.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

It's really easy to assume someone is saying something you expect them to say.

As for the rest, we'll see. I hope you're proven wrong too.

It is indeed easy. And it works both ways.

There's still the other 10% of the time

We're all hoping the same on this one. I'd be delirious with joy if Rafa somehow managed to just bring in Villa or Aguero instead. Cant see that though. Again hoping to be wrong. But for it to happen twice, is asking a lot
