Amazing how distinctly average Gerrard has been in centre midfield, maybe Rafa and Capello know what they're talking about a little more than pricks like Jamie Redknapp.
He is world class in the free role off Torres but nowhere near as effective in the middle of midfield and that is where he should be able to control games from.

Could not disagree with you more mate. Don't want to start the same old argument again but who exactly shone in that first half for us? We were atrocious to put it mildly.

Second half and Gerrard was a massive improvement and looked like he was controlling things for. On another day he probabaly would have scored.

He's been anonymous in the last couple of games.

As much as we improved in the second half, I cannot dismiss that this was down to Fiorentina sitting back on 2-0 goals, waiting for the counter. We still failed to create a decent chance.

I cannot for the life of me see why anyone defends the inclusion of Lucas anymore. He's been here for a few years now giving him plenty of time to adapt, he doesn't do anything particularly badly but he is the most undynamic central midfielder I have ever seen at the club. He adds nothing positive to our game at all, he just makes up the numbers.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

He is just a stop-gap until Aquaman is fit. I hope anyway.

Lucas did alright yesterday and was nowhere near the worst offender. Nowhere near.

A colleague - an Oldham fan - said he listened to 606 on the way home from their game last night and the usual brain-dead phone-in cretins were lining up to blame it all on Lucas.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

The main point isnt that he is terrible or the worst - but he makes virtually no significant impact. He's too weak to be a good 'destroyer' and he's not dynamic enough to be an attacking driving force. He rarely plays a successful killer ball and he doesnt score goals.

The question is, other than loads of 5-10 yard square balls, what significant contribution does he make?

He's a steady eddie, does the basics and simple stuff, but in terms of tangible productivity, i see little.

                        What does he actually do?

On a plus side, maybe this will make us realise we can't get complacent cos we have been walking over teams, and force us to up our game against Chelsea at the weekend?

I doubt we'd have been going to Stamford Bridge in a complacent mood anyway.

cant wait till Aquilani and Agger are available. We ****ing need them.

Really worried going into Sundays game, we've been **** against anyone half decent.

I'm not saying he was the worst, what I'm saying is that he's the most undynamic central midfielder we've had.

Everything should go through him, its the most important position on the pitch and he's ok, but ok in central midfield at a club wanting to win titles is just not good enough.
