We're talking first 11 though, not squad...if we continue with Rafa's preferred formation, (basically a 4-3-3 all dressed up) then i would replace;

Aurelio with Cole

and consider

Essien with Mascher
Drogba with Kuyt (Gerrard moving back into Kuyt's position and Drogba playing the support striker role)

Other than that, i'm pretty happy with what we have.

However, for strength in depth i would happily swap some of our benchwarmers with the Chelsea squad.

Fair enough but Aquilani is supposed to be all that an a bag of crisps .. masher on form there is no better holding mid field player in the world I think. Agger for me is one of the best defenders around and one of the few who can comfortably bring the ball out, Fabio ok but a dame fine player at that and i am sorry Benny is pure class ... typical un fashionable player which gets over looked but that guy rarely puts a foot wrong an offers a lot going forward. Bit like Fletcher over at the Manc's rarely gets the praise he deserves because he is not a big name or got that X factor ... as for Kuyt he is Marmite some people love him me included some people don't ..

Bigger names than Aquilani have failed in the EPL though, so we have to reserve judgement until he proves himself.

Mascher is superb, I agree, though a little one dimensional.

Agger was fantastic in his first season, we have yet to see if he'll ever show that form again.

Benny is the most technically gifted player at the club.

Kuyt, I just don't see anything more than a workhorse and if hasn't impressed me yet he never will. If he was a defensive midfielder then yes, but out wide you need to be more dynamic, you need flair and he has neither. IMO its a position wasted having him out there.

I'd still take the back 4 as a proven unit though, 100%, thats not even a close call for me. You disagree but I don't rate Skrtel, Agger needs to be back to his best (injuries may decide he never will), Carra (legend that he is) has been in decline for the last few years. Johnson has some great potential.

I'd take Essien over Mascher even though I think Mascher is quality, Essien is a bit more effective.

Fair points .. but people forget the amount of assists, important goals and defensive support he gives the team ... Basically he shuts up shop down the right hand side and offer attacking options .. he is always the player running his bollix off come the 90 minute and his attitude is just bang on but i can see why somebody might think a more dynamic winger type might help us out

Technically, our back line is a proven unit...however, this year we've had the young Insua playing and he is prone to positional lapses and we've sorely missed Agger. But hopefully he is back now, so we should see our solidity improve. I'd still only take Cole out of their line up.

Essien i love as a player, but i think Mascher is better defensively and with Gerrard and a hopefully on fire Aqualani playing, he'd be needed to provide the cover.

i would agree with that but then i would think so when most of there back 4 individually cost more than our whole defense!!

Agger hasn't hit top form since the 2007-08 season and Aurelio is not really what I'd call top class, though Rafa apparently rates him very highly. Riera started well, but to be fair, he's been exceedly average ever since.
