    Hoofing and heading

I sat and watched the game with my brother yesterday and we both monitored the two different styes of play. A few points came to light, none of which is news to anybody following Liverpool.

The amount of times that Carra (most guilty) and other defenders just hoof the ball long for Torres to chase is terrible. Arsenal always played the ball out of defence and only hoof when in danger. We had 5 midfielders yesterday but the urge to get the ball into their area overode any instinct to play the ball to feet. The result was normally straight to an Arsenal player.

The other main point we noticed was heading, so many times a Liverpool player would head the ball out, when not under any pressure, straight to a Gooner. Why the **** can they not bring it under control and then pass to another Red.

    Sooo dam frustrating.

Painful alright. We've been doing it for 10 years.

if there is no midfielder available to pass it too then a long ball to torres is the only option. besides, a lot of the times yesterday when a "hoof" ball went upfield it was normally a clearance and not strictly a pass.

because we dont have players of enough confidence and ability to control and play. only agger in the back four has that ability.

        Sooo dam frustrating.

I think you're harsh. We normally play that way when we're low on confidence. Arsenal don't know any other way of playing and when the going gets tough, they normally don't have a plan B.

Frustrating thing is that when we actually look to play soem pass and move we are pretty decent, but as soon as players are under pressure they resort to the hoof.

Makes me ****ing sick when I hear the Arse fans singing Liverpool Hoof the ball because that used to be what they did. I always thought the Liverpool way was to play to feet and pass and move, but Houllier destroyed that and whilst Rafa is trying to get it out of the system it still lingers.

Hansen was talking about Arsenal not hoofing it (or playing it down the line) on MOTD2 last night. He showed a bunch of examples of Sagna trying to play it out of defence and loosing it, then playing it down the line to Walcott (I think) and them having a chance.
I guess you need to vary it, which we don't really seem to do.
Well, here we are in a room with two manky hookers and a racist dwarf. I think I'm heading home.

I love Rafa and think he is a top bloke but our hoofball is just embarrassing.

I also thought yesterday watching masher and lucas who both had excellent first halfs that this is the way Rafa will always go in the big games that depressed me!! protect first score later

Do you really think that's down to Rafa?

It's about confidence mate, ****ing confidence. Try to play football when you don't have any of it and you'll treat a ball like a hot potato. FFS.

TBF some of our players still hoof it no matter how well or bad we are doing. It is all about instilling a passing culture in training and eradicating giving the ball away so damn cheaply.

even when we have confidence we still play hoofball!!!!

IF Rafa is telling them not to do it and they are doing it.....Well thats no good either is it?

Rafa has been in charge for 5 years and we probably play more hoofball than any of the top sides.....so surely thats down to Rafa?

That's totally false. We always vary our play and play excellent passing football. Have you seen the teams during Shankly days? As if we were all pass and move!

John Toshak was a battering ram during Shankly days and he was an aim for our defenders to hoof it up to him too. That's not to say that we didn't play passing football.

It's about diversity in our play.

Its his job to motivate the players, and set the tactics. the players are doing what he asked for. so yes its his fault

Not it's not. The bucks stop with him true, but he's got a ****ing team working for him. As if the job of a manager is to 'motivate' a team. Surely a manager's role is much more than head cheerleader.

Fredo, there is a massive difference between long passes and a hoof. Go figure.
