In the circumstances, we've done pretty well today but we're still a way off our best, which was displayed last season in the batterings of Madrid, Manchester and Midlanders.

Agree with you about the defending, it was solid against potentially difficult opponents. Also agree about the confidence after the 2nd goal.

Gerrard was better, more authoritative going forward and i agree about Insua too, he was very good.

If you really believe that any Liverpool fan is 'disappointed' at the prospect of Rafa turning things around, then you havent a clue about football fans.

I'd exercise a bit of caution before i reach for the party poppers though, as Spurs & Villa aside, we havent beaten anyone of any note during these last 6 games. We've won games which we SHOULD be winning (and failed to win one or two that we should be winning too), and in circumstances where we hadnt been winning them, then it's a positive improvement in fortunes. But we're getting back towards what we should be expecting, not to our best IMO.

As I used to say, it's all about the 'bigger picture'.
I’ve got far more respect for ‘fans’ that are willing to post a mixture of (constructive) positive and negative viewpoints than someone who posts nothing but happy clappy bull****. Some criticism of the team, the manager and the owners is justified.

Not sure how thrilled we should be by having 2 very lucky goals and the other team missing some that should of gone in. I dont want to win games by luck. I'll take them sure but right now to even consider last nights match a success, thats just a little hard for me to swallow. Very poor defending on the first goal and a massive deflection for the second. Ngog missing point blank, and if it wasnt for Kyriakos we'd have lost considering Carragher and Skrtel are not improving much. He was always going to do well though. I was very happy when we were linked with him because he's always been excellent in the air, and thats something we need badly. I dont think our other defenders even know how to jump. Actually no, I'm positive they never heard of the word jump.

That's a pretty negative viewpoint your looking at yesterdays game from. I only saw the extended highlights but it seemed clear from them we were the better team and easily created the most goal scoring chances.

Saying that we were lucky because the other team missed some chances is pretty daft considering we missed some far easier chances than they did.

I'm happy with the result and with the 2nd half performance, also with the assist of Aquiliani! But we are Liverpool and we should and we must play at that level every week!

Not negative at all. I watched the whole game. First half was extremely weak. The second half was only better because we managed a couple lucky goals which forced bolton to play less compact and try to attack us, which meant we had more room which we still couldnt manage to compensate for. Its not negative to say our first goal was down completely to defender errors. If that goal had been against us we'd be livid. Second goal you cant argue, it just rebounded. Ignore the goals they COULD of gotten and the ones we COULD of gotten, and it was still a pretty mish mash performance that still highlighted our vulnerabilities. That being we still needed luck to score a goal and couldn't make one ourselves.

Sure luck is part of the game, but you cant win every game with luck. For majority of games you're going to need more than luck, and this season 80% of our wins were probably down to luck favouring us. It certainly hasnt been our supreme strike force I can tell you that. So I dont see what I said as being negative. Just factual.

the next 3 games will tell us all we need to know to whether we are getting anywhere near back to form

Everton, Arsenal and City would have beaten us on that performance.....but then hopefully we can raise our game

Yes the second goal was lucky and you're right you can't rely on luck all the time, but as much as luck is a part of the game so are individual errors by players. If you put players under pressure they make mistakes, and as much as goals from such situations are bad defending they are also good play from attacking players. IMO we played some good football yesterday.

I'd also dispute the claim that 80% of our wins have been due to us being lucky, We haven't been at our best thats for sure but I think we've had alot of bad luck this season which has cost us games, for one think the beach ball incident.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Actually, we scored in the first half.

Maybe you didnt watch as closely as you think

Apart altogether from the fact that we scored in each half, how can you say our first goal was lucky? It came at the end of the best move of the game.

And yes Pete I think we are slowly getting back to our best. A good bit to go yet but we are getting there and it is bult on better defending, which makes me kinda worry what will happen when Glen comes back.
"With Ron Yeats in defence, we could play Arthur Askey in goal."

That's absolutely ridiculous. Goals normally are all the result of 'defensive errors'. You can't expect each and every of our goal to be the product of attacking brilliance no?

It's about applying enough pressure to make the other team make errors and that's what we did last night. We were good value for our win.
