I dont think rafa was a failure, but your daft logic would make him one, because he didnt fulfil his objective.Originally posted by PeteBest View PostGerrard won the CL so his ambitions were in part fulfilled. As for Torres, yes, but he hardly won anything before anyway but his value soared by joining us and by being under Rafa's tutelage. Same could be said of Gerrard.

I was on the tangent that Torres and Gerrard were unhappy and looking for pastures new, that's why I implied that their objectives were never met. They were on record as saying that the team needed to match their ambitions next season, so I was taking it from their point of view, it's nothing to do with 'my logic'.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostI dont think rafa was a failure, but your daft logic would make him one, because he didnt fulfil his objective.

I dont follow Gala much so I wont make a judgment there, but while at Barca did Rijkaard really work any magic managing the team he had, surely that team needed little work. or is he generally a really good attacking manager?Originally posted by Mike View PostThe more i think about it, the more i wouldnt mind Rijkaard.
His teams play good football, plus he would bring Turan

Playing that defensively is ingrained into Italian international football. I think it's better to look at the teams he set up when he was managing at club level.Originally posted by Darkon View Poststill the team he won the WC with 4 years ago played anything but attractive football. There is more defensive managers out there for sure, but it will not be more attractive than what we have been used to the last 6 seasons.
Probably wont happen anyway!K ris90210

I didn't realise you quoted the post about Dalglish. Dalglish didn't win anything with Newcastle nor Celtic whereas Rafa won a CL and an FA Cup and he exceeded the club expectations year in year out bar last season when we didn't qualify for anything of note apart from the Europa league.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostI dont think rafa was a failure, but your daft logic would make him one, because he didnt fulfil his objective.
How is that logic making Rafa a failure?

It was your logic about failed managers at newcastle, because they never filfilled the ambitions.Originally posted by PeteBest View PostI was on the tangent that Torres and Gerrard were unhappy and looking for pastures new, that's why I implied that their objectives were never met. Same applies to rafa at Liverpool, whether you like it or not.

I would absolutely love to see Lippi in charge of Liverpool having him on our bench would be so cool. He's a living legend and not as old as people make him out to be. I'm sure he'd be a success but unfortunately I can't see it happening in a million years. Out of interest, anyone know if he can speak English?
Oh yes and when it comes to Moyes, I don't care how appropriate he is. If I see that Gargoyle in control of our team I'll stop watching our games until he's removed from the position. I don't think I could handle seeing jim manage our team.

Bull****. Dalglish never won anything whereas Rafa won and made us competitive season in season out, especially in the CL. How can that compare?Originally posted by Craig_H View PostIt was your logic about failed managers at newcastle, because they never filfilled the ambitions.

You're either being deliberately difficult, or you're just having a slow day.Originally posted by PeteBest View PostBull****. Dalglish never won anything whereas Rafa won and made us competitive season in season out, especially in the CL. How can that compare?
You mentioned about managers at Newcastle not realising the club's ambitions and this made them failures.
The ultimate ambition and remit of any Liverpool manager is to win the title. Rafa didnt do that, so by your daft 'ambition' logic, he failed.
I dont think he was a failure, but your barometer of 'ambitions fulfilled or not' makes him one.

I thought you were of the idea that Rafa was a failure a couple of weeks ago, what made you change your mind, sentiments?Originally posted by Craig_H View PostYou're either being deliberately difficult, or you're just having a slow day.

Rafa didn't win us the league but we won the CL (which was our ambition as supporters) and won us an FA Cup (which is another ambition of ours - winning cups). He didn't win the league but I expected him to win it if he was given more time.
As for Dalglish, he won **** all and never realised any ambition of Newcastle fans, apart from playing in Europe a couple of seasons and they never made any impression there.
If you're going to be petty about semantics, then stick to your promise of never replying to my posts.

He would be an interesting choice. Having said that I personally would like to see Guus at the helm.Originally posted by kris90210 View PostLippi anyone?
There are reports that Italy boss Marcello Lippi is Liverpool’s target to replace Rafa Benitez.
The 2006 World Cup winner has already confirmed he will leave his post after the tournament in South Africa, making way for Cesare Prandelli.
This week Liverpool terminated their contract with Benitez by mutual consent, so they are on the look-out for a new Coach.
According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Lippi represents the kind of solidity and success rate that the new Anfield owners are looking for.
His presence would also help guarantee that stars such as Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres will stay on at the club.
The newspaper claims that both Liverpool legends Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush would support this appointment.
Lippi has always said that he would like an experience in the Premier League and that he wouldn’t accept another Serie A job after the Azzurri.
