The most worrying thing is we're going to struggle to get back into the CL.

Exactly, you just know that Man City will push on again over the summer by spending more money, and I can't see the Mancs or Chelsea dropping out of the top 4 anytime soon. The same with Arsenal.

Maybe I'm totally deluded and blinded by hate, but I can genuinely see United struggling a bit and maybe being at risk of dropping out of the top 4 in the next year or two. I think their decline has begun.

Look at all the 30 somethings they have - VDS (nearly 40), Neville, Giggs, Scholes, Berbatov, Ferdinand etc. Totally reliant on one player, funds drying up to be able to compete at the top end of the transfer market (see Hernandez, Smalling, Mame Diouf) and a lot of players coming towards the end of their careers.

We've shown this season how easy it is to fall out of the top 4. Good Arsenal sides in recent seasons have had some very close shaves, we missed out once and will miss out again. I don't think it's all set in stone.

The football landscape is changing....mainly down to new ownership, and the pluses and negatives it brings..depending on who buys your the club.

We've paid the price for not signing a decent backup striker to Torres. Benitez's worst decision in my opinion. Toothless without him. So frustrating.

What's most frustrating is how easy we've made it for City. They'll walk 4th now I reckon. If we could have put some pressure on them they may well have stumbled at the final hurdle.

Some serious action needs to be taken at the club this summer to make sure this doesn't happen again next season or that really will be disastrous for the short term future of Liverpool FC.

Final point. What the **** has happened to Steven Gerrard? He doesn't look like he gives a ****. Doesn't look fit. He's playing like he's knackered. When we needed our most inspirational player to step up he's been missing and it's been the same story all season. He's practically given a free role in the team and we need someone in that position to be contributing far, far more than he is doing.

Let's concentrate on winning the EL and worry about everything else in the summer.

But before this season he's scored 20+ goals in 3 of the previous 4 seasons under Rafa, if he doesn't like playing under Rafa it's only come about this season
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

                        agreed!

He started the season pretty well if I remember correctly. Seems like such a long time ago now. I remember one bit of outrageous skill in particular. Then he got injured. We dropped **** loads of points and since he's been back he's looked ****ed.

I wonder if he's been carrying an injury, because the player I watched today was not Steven Gerrard.

He doesn't run at players. Doesn't make thunderous challenges. Doesn't shoot from distance. And most telling of all, he doesn't look like he cares.

Everyone has to have a good look at themselves. The owners (if they ain't vampires), the manager, the players.

If Benitez does get cash in the summer he'd better spend it wisely - now what are the chances of that?

I'd like to see a new right back, anew left back, Johnson moved to right midfield a la Gareth Bale, 5 or 6 "first team players" sold (Benayoun, Babel, Kuyt, Aqualaini, Riera, Skrtel all candidates), some youth players given a crack, and hold onto Torres and Reina.

I wonder if his physical decline is starting. He's always been a player who relies mainly on his explosive power to make things happen. But now he's nearly 30 and has started to have niggling problems with his groin and other areas. The sad fact is he may never get back to where he was over the last few seasons.

And I have never thought he has the intelligence in reading and controlling a game to be able to adjust successfully to a more Alonso type role.

May be the start of an end of an era at the club. One more depressing thought today.

It is very depressing, we won't finish fourth nor fifth by now.

The question is now if we will finish in 6th 7th or 8th place - yes it is actually realistic now that Everton could overtake us by their form. I mean they are only three points behind if they win the game in hand :/

                                4 Man City 33 17 11 5 69-41 62
                                5 Tottenham 32 17 7 8 58-32 58
                                6 Liverpool 34 16 8 10 54-33 56
                                7 Aston Villa 32 14 12 6 44-32 54
                                8 Everton 33 13 11 9 52-44 50

We could still finish above Villa as their form is not superb either, but they still have a few points to drop for us to stay above them.

My guess right now is that we will finish in 7th place, but I am starting to fear 8th
