Lucas - I want to stay at Liverpool

Like many players at this stage of the summer, there has been some speculation about your future. What can you tell us?

At the moment we don't know what is going to happen. I'm happy in Liverpool and looking forward to my fourth season. I hope I stay. I'm happy to play for Liverpool and to improve my performances, as I did last season. We don't know too much. There is a lot of speculation but we will see when the players all come back what will happen.

One of the question put to him on Lfc.tv

I'd still take around 7 million for him though.
The times they are a changin'.

Better than what Mascherano has said so far

I wouldn't. Far from being his biggest fan and he would not be my first choice but I think we need depth and should hold on to him. He is still improving and developing and given his age we will retain the value.

I'm also glad that he publicly expressed an interest in staying..

If he wants to stay, I'm happy to keep him.

He had a better season last time out. I'm not convinced that long term he is a player capable of playing week in, week out in a title winning squad, but for now he is good enough.

I wouldn't want him forst choice, but hopefully he can step up once again.
        Forwards.......

I see what your saying, but in my opinion I don't think he is strong enough to anchor the midfield on his own, if Macherano leaves I believe we will need to buy a stronger defensive midfielder if we choose to keep that system.

I hope if Roy does keep Lucas he plays him a bit further up the pitch, I'm not his biggest fan either, but I do think he could be useful playing box-to-box.

Like I've said before I'd be happy to keep him, I doubt he'll be first choice but he had a decent season last year and deserves another chance, with some many things at the club up in the air I don't see the point in changing players for changes sake which is probably what we'd be doing.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Happy to keep, I think he is a good young player who'll only get better.

Based on last seasons performances alone, i would of played him over Mascherano, he played better out of the two.

A lot of people on here dont rate him too highly, what they fail to realise is just how much he improved last season.

He was one of our best players last season. If he carries on improving at the rate he did last season he could be a very useful player.

Huge relief. With all the top European clubs after him, the lure could have been too great for Lucas. Great show of loyalty.

why would you base it on last seasons performance alone?

Lucas is not fit to lace mascherano's boots......by the time masher was 23 he had allready played 50 odd times for argentina was about to become there captain only a year later!

masher had a few dodgy games before christmas but was back to his best after christmas.......Lucas is a steady eddie and cant really name many games he was outstanding in. Masher is a beast.

I dont mind him. He hasn't quite progressed yet but i put that down to benitez. Hopefully Hodgson will get more out of him. Iv seen glimses of talent but its always seemed like he was playing a very restricted role. Potentially he could become a good player

that about sums it up, he has gone from poor to average and i think your right next season he could become useful......who knows by 2014-2015 he might become good

Pointing out that last season he had a better season than Mascherano and he STILL got criticised by certain people, for some he can do nothing right and will always be slated but for me and a few others, he played well, he improved, he is going to get better, overall one of liverpool's best players last season.

Also, for me Mascherano was never back to his best last season, i actually think his passing declined since the previous season. the season before last, yes he was brilliant and yes he was a 'beast' - last season he was one of many liverpool players who failed to hit their top form.
