I'm glad that Lucas wants to stay and I hope that he does. Not a fan of the sell everyone, buy an entire new squad train of thought any way and I think he has a lot of very strong qualities as a player."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Just home from the match. Lucas went 90 min and was pure Lucas all night; he partnered Ramires in the midfield and Brazil outclassed the USA 2-0. Lucas played the deep holding role and broke up a few plays and was excellent and in control all night. If we lose Mascherano, I am convinced he would be good partnering Gerrard as the holding player; he allowed Ramires (and Neymar and Robinho and Pato) to shine. Solid and did his jon, just as he does for us. Fun to see him in person, despite pulling for my USA side in a BAD loss."Our legacy begets an excellence that surpasses the particulars of who produces it." -- David Carr

He was totally fine; his job was to sit behind Ramires/Robinho Pato/ Neymar/ Ganso and in front of the back four. He was not a playmaker or playing box to box... I watched him all night and he was "Lucas" through and through-- short balls to attackers, switching the point of attack, broke up some plays with a header here and a tackle there, a poor ball once in a while, a negative ball now and again. The USA sucked so bad he really didn't have much to do, just get the ball to Ramires or Alves or Robinho and stay in front of the back four. Small ball. If he can do the same for Kuyt/Cole/Gerrard/ Jovanovic/ Torres we'll be fine, I think. Don't want too many cooks in the kitchen! I would prefer Michael Bradley to Lucas any day of the week, but Lucas is fine. He just is what he is.Originally posted by little dave hedgehog View Posthe looked pretty meh from here.
77,223 on hand at the match; pretty good crowd at the new stadium for a meaningless friendly against the Brazil B+ team..."Our legacy begets an excellence that surpasses the particulars of who produces it." -- David Carr

I still don't think Gerrard would be the best partner for Lucas. He needs someone more used to receiving and giving the ball short. I do think that he would work best with a midfield trio and that he could link well with Gerrard and Aquilani in that sort of formation."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I love the way that, when an issue has basically died down and gone, muppets come on claiming how annoying it is, not realising it's done and dusted, and the re-ignite it
