Borrell joy at cup triumph
Rodolfo Borrell hailed a superb team performance as Liverpool's youngsters got their bid for Youth Cup glory off to a flyer with a 4-0 win over Notts County on Wednesday night.
he Reds included the likes of Suso, Jack Robinson and John Flanagan in a strong starting XI and always looked likely to progress after Krisztian Adorjan fired home the opener on nine minutes.
Michael Ngoo then doubled the lead just after the interval before Raheem Sterling got his name on the scoresheet with a sensational third.
Ngoo grabbed his second of the game late on to seal victory and leave Borrell delighted by his side's overall showing at Meadow Lane.
"It is a great result for us and we are very pleased with how the lads applied themselves," Borrell told Liverpoolfc.tv.
"In the first 20 minutes we played fantastic football and deserved to go ahead through Adorjan.
"After that we were not practical in possession or as clinical in front of goal as I would have liked and we allowed the game to get too open.
"We spoke about how we could improve at half-time and I was delighted with the second-half showing.
"We scored three great goals and illustrated what a good team we can be against an opponent who had been unbeaten in their last 11 matches, including the last two rounds of the cup.
"We can now head into the winter break in good spirits and look ahead to what will hopefully be a successful 2011."
Liverpool Youth: Belford, Flanagan, Robinson, Sama, McGiveron, Coady, Roddan (Aylmer), Suso, Sterling, Ngoo, Adorjan (Silva).

The trouble for someone like Ngoo is that, similar to Peter Crouch, he will need games to learn how to use his frame against stronger, experienced defenders. It took Crouch a number of clubs to become the player he was even when he joined us (let alone the player Rafa helped him become). It will be interesting to see how he develops from here."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Surely some time on loan in the Championship could help that Dave ?Originally posted by dww View PostThe trouble for someone like Ngoo is that, similar to Peter Crouch, he will need games to learn how to use his frame against stronger, experienced defenders. Why is he so ****ing obsessed with 'English lads'? Eccleston couldn't get in the reserve team cos he wasn't good enough. Of course it's nice to have a few local lads in there but ultimately who gives a ****. He talks about 'foreign lads who were never going to make the grade for Liverpool in a million years' - where are these English lads who are going to make it? Cos Eccleston certainly won't and Spearing hasn't. **** all these old school ex-players banging the English drum. I'm sick of it re Hodgson/managers, and I'm sick of it with young players."Our transfer policy around the reserve team was absolutely barmy under Benitez. It was full of foreign players. You could go and watch the Liverpool reserves last year and there would be nine, ten foreign lads who were never going to make the grade for Liverpool in a million years. People like Nathan Eccleston couldn't even get a game in the reserves because the foreign boys got the nod."
Having been given a new mandate by Hodgson to take complete control of reserve-team affairs, McMahon set about making wholesale changes to the playing personnel over the summer, a process that Fairclough candidly describes as "sorting the wheat from the chaff". Of the foreign players involved in the reserves, Daniel Ayala, Peter Gulcalsi and Victor Palsson were sent out on loan, while Alexander Kacanklik, Lauri Dalla Valle, Damien Plessis, Vincent Weijl, Nabil El Zhar and Kristian Nemeth were all ushered out.
"John McMahon definitely deserves credit for the changes. He was working under very strict guidance from Benitez, always being told what to do, but then Roy came in and told him to take full responsibility for looking after the reserves. John made his recommendations about who should stay and who should go and it's no surprise that a lot of the young players who didn't have a hope have now been released. Now you've got a reserve team with an English core, which is a move in the right direction. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
