We had Arbeloa, Hyypia, Alonso and Benayoun as well dude.

They played a big part in us finishing 2nd that season.

In the main though, you're right, most of that squad are still with us...something not ****ing right.

Johnson's a better overall player than Arbeloa. Hyypia barely played - Kyrgiakos fills his squad place. Alonso is nigh-on irreplaceable. Joe Cole is better than Benayoun.

Basically:

No creativity - been that way for years which is why cole has been signed
No tempo in passing too many players that can't control a football
To many balls sideways a lot of teams do this to retain the ball, I'd rather they go sideways than give it away
Jovanvich doesn't get back quickly enough and can't defend amen
Agger isn't a LB no he isn't yet I saw plenty last season sugguesting he could play there if required plus Auerlio isn't fit yet
Midfield collects the ball too deep from defence amen
No heart not convinced with that - i would like as few more getting stuck in but that just results in reds these days
Torres out wide too much much same last season chasing endless lost causes
No gambling from front players Ngog plays a mean game of blackjack
No wingers for way too long
No team play only players trying to do things themselves that will take time, thats the one thing Roy's teams do usually do, play as a team, time is required
Man to man is worse than zonal way too early to say that - we've conceded soft goals from corners for years now

Depressing. Roy got it wrong for sure, but the players need a ****ing word with themselves. If we'd have gone at them, like you would imagine that team should be doing, then we might have fared better. We invited them to get at us, and made what on paper looks like the most negative team in the world look like a potent attacking force

Roy got it wrong for sure

I'm much more dismayed by the formation and inability to change things than I am by the woeful performance of our players. If we had played a formation to match City in midfield then we might not have won the game, but we wouldn't have been stuffed three nil.

Apparently Torres was there, well according to the radio and this was after they originally said he wasn't there.
