Signing Diouf for nearly double what Anelka cost will always be one of the biggest cock ups in the clubs recent history.

I've a lot of respect for Ged. Before him even winning a league cup would have been considered a good season. He brought us into the Champions league and give us some great European nights in the Uefa.

at the end of the day...it doesn't matter what state ged or rafa left the teams in....neither of them and I include houiller who i am not a fan off.....would be worse than ****ing roy hodgson

the debate will go on and on about what benitez did and didnt do....it's mainly hodgson supporters (blue noses and the media ) who are using it as some sort of defence...

bollocks....the way i see it is hodgson took over with 3 world class players, half a dozen very good players and a load of squaddies with international/european/premier league experience and 4 or 5 very promising youngsters coming through.

He also had the added bonus of the 'new manager' effect were you'd expect the players/fans to get a bit of a boost from it.

The only issue he had against him was hicks and gillette. - But for me other than that...he wasn't in a bad position.

But he's seems to have sucked the life out torres, agger, riena seemed unhappy, johnson had a spat, etc etc - and he has completley misunderstood the most important thing at Liverpool....the fans........day by day, every time he speaks, he loses another LFC/pro hodgson fan......i don't know many who are willing to give him time.
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

Anelka would have cost more than Diouf (Anelka was going to cost £12 million and Diouf cost £10 million)

Still a monumental **** up though

Did Anelka not ending up signing for someone for around £6-8 million? That may have been further down the line when I think about it.

As you say it was big **** up. Even if Diouf was on a free, Anelka would still have been a better option

The new manager effect doesnt work for him though. Well not sure about Blackburn......But Fulham and Liverpool both started terribly not sure about blackburn.

It takes time for him to drag the squad down to his level...er, I mean...implement his well tested ideas like defending on the six yard line and praying for a goal.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

But could we have not got him cheaper, i seem to remeber a deal for around 9mill having been agreed should we buy after an initial loan period.

                    Or..i could be wrong.

Houllier: Roy will get it right
                        6th Dec 2010 - Latest News

Gerard Houllier believes Liverpool are starting to show signs of becoming a real force under Roy Hodgson.

The Frenchman brings his Aston Villa side to Anfield tonight searching for what would be only their second victory in 10 league outings.

Ahead of his emotional return, Houllier found time to lend some supportive words to a man whose seat in the dugout he used to occupy.

"I saw Liverpool play against West Ham the other week. They are back," said our former boss.

"I am sure Roy will turn it around at Liverpool. He will do it. No problem. Give him a bit of time. He needs to change a few things. The problem is at Liverpool, when you lose, it's a crisis."

Houllier left Anfield in 2004 after a trophyless season in which the Reds finished fourth.

His tenure saw six pieces of silverware added to the trophy room.

On his legacy, Houllier said: "I always think the mission of a manager is three-fold.

"The first one is to win a trophy and have silverware and win titles and so on - and we did that.

"The second one is to leave a legacy. I would just use my former chairman's words. He said, 'You put the club into the 21st century.' Which it needed, maybe, at the time.

"The legacy is the team because the team that was left with Rafa Benitez won the Champions League the following year.

"We also had new facilities and maybe a new style of professionalism, I would say.

"I think the third mission of a manager is to make your players improve.

"We had a Ballon d'Or with Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard is a world-class international player.

"All the players, whether it was Danny Murphy, Emile Heskey, Stephane Henchoz or Sami Hyypia, all did well, contributed and became better players."
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I wish Houllier would give it a rest.

I reckon the majority of rational LFC fans would agree with the facts that Houllier improved many things, brought the club into the 21st century, put the club back on the European stage, won us some trophies and bought some class players.

He doesn't need to let us know every month.
