    Howdy....lurker here.

Just wanted to say I totally agree with Banditos.

I've always stuck by the managers in the past. Liverpool have never been ones to sack a manager after a few months, it's just not our way.

However, historically (i.e. the Liverpool way), we've employed from the bootroom, so they're steeped in tradition and are following the path that the previous have set (pass, move etc). That doesn't really exist anymore...not since Roy.

I think Hodgson was a bit of a panic appointment to steady the ship and get a media friendly manager. As several people have said, he's way out of his depth, and has a small team mentality, which has been compounded by his signings, and some awful tactical decisions.

If he was manging Fulham now and got these results, everyone would love him still. At Liverpool, it just won't do.

First time I've said it of a Liverpool manager.....get him out asap, so a new manager can suss out the team and make some decent signings in Jan.

And so.....I go back to Lurkerland .

The Liverpool way in the past was to win. Now days it just seems a stick to hit us round the head to prevent us progressing.

Right from Shankly up until the appointment of Souness we got the decisions right and with our previous chairmen got everything spot on. Then we employed Souness and it all went wrong. It was clear early on he was not the right man but he was allowed to stay on due to a bull **** code of conduct and strip our team and replace it with players not up to scratch. By the time Roy Evans took over we were a shadow of the successfull side Souness took over.

If we'd got rid of him sooner we wouldn't be in the mess we found ourselves in. I give nesv the benefit of the doubt as they're new. Any other season and I'd call the board clueless.
        Forwards.......

is the correct answer. Gerrard was the savior, and it was nice to see him finally hustle and shine. He's been off the boil for so long now, I hope this is what he needed...Also, Lucas played well in his limited time, a nice change up from him. Everyone complaining about Spearing/Shelvey/Poulsen playing a **** first half-- is it any wonder? It's Spearing/Shelvey/Poulsen FFS. Did we expect to dominate with them? Roy is clearly conceding this competition and we're still top of the group.

N'gog showed a lot to like tonight; he's getting much better holding up the ball and getting into dangerous positions. Just needs the confidence to finish. If Meireles had that same ball another 15 yards out, he would have buried it. *ha*

anyway, I think the manager is in over his head as I have said from the start, but players win matches and let's see where they can take us... I trust NESV to do what's right.

5 ****ing centre-mids on the pitch for most of the 2nd half, what a joke.
We had more width second half with central midfielders playing wide than we did first half with a supposed wide player on

It worked, whether that was by accident or design it worked

Will it work against a better side, well again I'm not convinced we are still too deep for my liking and our play is still too strung out

That is Gerrards best performance this season but again can he be effective against someone like Chelsea well time will tell

I think we were ok second half, we pressed more than we have ever done previously

Gerrard did more pressing than he has done so far under Roy

Would it have worked against better opposition..

I thought Napoli over the two games were ****e, totally underwhelmed by some of their "star players" who I was looking forward to watching

That said you can only beat what is put in front of you

But, on the whole, we had that game in the bag and I could feel it coming. Ngog and Miereles should have buried their chances, but unfortunately these are the sh*te players Roy has to work with for now.

Saying that I like Ngog and Miereles but never had confidence they could hit a barn door when it mattered. Thank God for Stevie, had Rafa been managing us we wouldn't have seen him until 60 mins by which time it would have been too late.

Shelvey at the start of the programme said "I was born to play football", well today the pride came before the fall. He was hopeless sh*t, fair enough out of position, but hopeless nevertheless. Poulson seemed like Maradona next to him and Jovanvic tonight. But Shelvey is a great prospect, I just hope his head shrinks back to normal size now.
                    WTF

Roy has ****e players to work with - flmao

He would make Brazil 70 look ****e, tactically we are still appalling we sit way too deep our play is too strung out

first half we were utter cockrot

Second half much improved and I thought shelvey did ok 2nd half exspecially considering hes not a genuine wide player

Poulsen was ****ing abysmal but what do you expect - hes a Roy signing

                      I'd agree with that

                      Gerrard rescued us no doubt

                        Almost as irrelevant as Hodgson

I dont think Meireles is that bad

The rest are ****ing dire including Cole

However I always suspected we would be disappointed by him as to be frank I've never rated him that highly

                            Lucas - Meireles

Actually has the potential to be very, very good.

I just don't think we'll see that often under Hodgson.

I think that midfield will do ok provided someone else is in charge

We probably need a specialised holding player (and a top quality one at that) to play against top quality opposition

We still sit too deep and our play is still too stretched for my liking

Roy has inherited a squad that was barely up to the job last season and been given not a lot of time and cash to improve it. So he has to work with the material he has got until he can bring in some new faces. It appears that not many managers were prepared to take the job under these conditions.

Liverpool have always given their managers the chance to prove themselves, so I reckon Roy deserves to get that opportunity, too. This may not be modern, but what the heck, it is what we used to call the Liverpool way.

If this is asking too much, just a bit of fairness and respect would be nice.
Maybe this season is a season of transformation and we'll harvest the results next season.
                              What total and utter rubbish

We had a squad that finished 7th and was considered under performing in finishing in that position

Our current manager has had that squad mired in the bottom 3

Thats nothing to do with what hes inherited that is his contribution

Hes made terrible signings (Meireles excluded) and we are reaping the "benefits" of having a manager whose tactics are archaic, base and the most negative I've ever seen from a Liverpool manager

My big worry about giving Roy time is the damage that he will cuase for future managers

Part of that has now been mitigated with the arrival of Comolli at least Roy is not in charge of the purse strings otherwise I'd be ****ting myself going into January

But frankly I still dont want him at the club, the last thing we need is these tactics being ingrained in the very fabric of the club because that would be catastrophic

Comolli is for the long term

However this squad is better than its 7th place finish of last year and it is better than the results so far under Roy

A decent manager with decent tactics would reap far more than the negative tactics Roy has us playing
