i was really confused about this. i thought that when a keeper comes out, commits and then doesn't get any of the ball, the ref doesn't have any discretion here.

normally a red card offense as well.

He should've just gone down straight away, and not delayed in installments. He made it easy for the ref to not give it.

Bearing in mind that Chelsea are our best bet to stop United winning the league, i'm glad Cech didnt get sent off and incur a ban.

Maxi definitely dove after feeling the contact. I think the fact that he clearly made the most of it went against us for the decision, regardless of whether Cech caught him or not.

He should have tried to stay on his feet and slot it, after all, he had already beaten the keeper.

It was a foul, it was a penalty, but Maxi made a meal of it hence the ref didn't give it...however, if the ref was so certain of that, he should have booked Maxi for diving and given Chelsea a free kick...unless he thinks Cech got the ball and knocked it against Maxi i suppose?

Very true. I think the decision reeked of "93rd minute, no bearing on the result, **** it, play on!" Webb just couldn't be arsed with the extra paperwork a decision either way would create.

Perhaps Maxi's clear dive made Webb think that any contact was minimal.

I agree he couldnt be arsed, but i think it was more to do with the 'controversy' of sending off Cech, and the fact that the decision would've been in the spotlight and discussed all over the place, that Webb didnt want.
