Listened to the end og the game on 5 Live in the car, Lawrenson saying we are still really short in every area and he thinks we'll finish top half but not top 6/8.

Now I don't care who our manager is the squad we have is top 8 and personally I think our level is currently from 5th to 8th.
We're in the 2nd tier currently below Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal and Man C imo.

    Lawrenson is a ****ing egg
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Im sure I heard someone say that on thursday It was very very loud to be fair

Im glad they were all in attendance to see what our club is capable of so that we can use this as a benchmark for them. Next time we are struggling they will remember this experience to understand where we belong

Who gives a **** what Lawro says.

I'm not getting carried away after a very positive few weeks but the top 4 isn't totally out of reach - alot depends on whether we can keep Torres fit and sign a few quality players in Jan.

Chelsea, United and Arsenal are nailed on for the top 3 imo, then it's probably between Spurs and City for 4th Spot but both sides are still unconvincing and we might just be able to challenge them.

We should defo be finishing in the top 5 or 6 atleast. But he's right about our squad being short of quality. We had no quality centre back on the bench yesterday or any top quality defender for that matter. We have no pacey effective options out wide either and only Ngog to back-up Torres. All it takes is 1 or 2 injuries and we will fall apart

The only way we have any realistic chance of 4th this season IMO is if Torres not only stays fit, but also has an absolute blinder of a season. If he does we might just make it as the other challengers are looking pretty ordinary this season too.

The standard in the Premier League has really dipped over the last couple of seasons IMO.

us sitting so deep is probably a confidence thing. then again, being to 2-0 up there's nothing wrong with sitting deep IF you play it very neat and quick on the counter.
hoofing the ball away to invite yet more pressure is - needless to say - suicidal.

Agree about the other challengers. I do think that we need Torres to be fit for the majority of the season but given the standard elsewhere I think a decent season from him would give us a reasonable chance of 4th. I suppose a lot will depend on the relative strengthening of different teams in January.

Just need to look at the players who've left the league recently - Alonso, Ronaldo, Mascherano......er.......sure there's more

And those three were replaced by Valencia, Aquilani and Poulsen
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I'm no apologist for Hodgson but sitting too deep when we're leading against a big team is hardly a new thing for us.

It's not just that though it is the fact that teams seem to have lost the ability to defend. For a few years the PL was leading a movement to a more physical but effective form of defending. Now we seem to have regressed to the late 90s where unless at least 8 of a teams players are camped in the defensive end of their half you can't be sure they won't give away stacks of chances.

Chelsea have in general been the sole consistent exception.

If we don't finish in the top 8 something has seriously gone wrong, Chelsea Man Utd, will finish top 2 but there's not much to choose between Man City, Arsenal, Spurs and Ourselves. Who else does Lawrenson thing will finish above us Villa Everton and Who??
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I also think we aren't far off Arsenal this season. I generally think the top 2 are nailed on as Chelsea and United and its going to be between: Arsenal, Us, City and Tottenham for 3rd and 4th.

Did anyone else notice he distinct lack of 'long balls' our CBs played yesterday? Sure there were some to Torres no doubt but all teams do that, even Chelsea and Arsenal.

What Skrtel was doing (and did well yesterday) is being grounded into him on the training ground. This is the same Skrtel who couldn't pass for sh*t last season. Not having a go at Rafa per se, just noticing and liking these little differences this season.

Skrtel has always been pretty decent with the ball.

I'm a big fan of Skrtel but i actually thought he looked a bit nervous at times yesterday, particularly at the start of the 2nd half when Chelsea were putting on a bit of pressure.

He did have a strong last 20 minutes tho, dealt brilliantly with some dangerous balls coming into the box and won a few vital headers. He's having a fine season imo.

This is a pathetic post. Skrtel has shown, during the last 2/3 years he's been with us that he can pass and bring the ball out of defence. It's an absolute pathetic lie to state that he 'didn't pass for ****' under Rafa.
                                Are we winning?
