You just can't argue the way you did and mention that if you take away a strength from a player that he isn't anything special.

Agger is a very good defender because he is one of the best ball playing defenders around and don't have a real weakness. He isn't top class at anything else but he isn't bad at anything else either.

That makes it very difficult for the opposition to set up a plan to use against him because he don't have a weakness they can use against him.

The opposition know for example that if you press Carra then he will most probably hoof the ball, a weakness. The same with Skrtel and Kyrgiakos. They use that in game after game against them. They can't do that against Agger because he is an excellent ball playing defender.

To have central defenders that is great with the ball is key in todays football. You don't win anything if you don't have that. Every club out there search after defenders that is great with the ball.

Why is Arsenal and Barcelona two teams that usually have a high percentage ball possession. The answer is that they don't have a single player that isn't great with the ball. They don't have players that slow the pace down.

Rather have a pair that compliment each other and provide a combination of all things needed for a defender - so a classy ball playing CB, and an aggressive beast of a CB - for me, that makes a good pair.

Being a poor defender isn't the same as making individual cock ups. He's not that good in the air, slowish and struggles with stronger attackers.
